Lan Quynh apologizes... Tan Nhan

For the past two days, social media platform Facebook has been abuzz with a post by singer Dinh Trang accusing three young artists, including Lan Quynh - the winner of the 2023 Sao Mai classical music competition - whom she had helped in the 2022 Sao Mai competition, of creating a private chat group to "badmouth" their teacher with derogatory and sarcastic remarks, "analyzing" the flaws in Dinh Trang's concert.

Dinh Trang is "heartbroken" because her students insulted and showed ingratitude towards her.

Singer Dinh Trang wrote: "Recently, on the evening of September 30th, Tia Sang Newspaper organized a mini-show for me. This was a memorable occasion marking Dinh Trang's return to the stage after 3 years of fulfilling her role as a mother."

I noticed my former student, Lan Quynh, sitting below, silently watching me from beginning to end. I was secretly pleased, thinking a former student had come to encourage me, but as soon as the program ended, she stood up and left without a word of greeting.

Later, I read messages from the private Operaphillia group, where they discussed and assigned who would go to watch me sing. Quynh filmed and sent clips of my mistakes to the group, and then my former students and LVH enthusiastically commented and judged me, as shown in the image below.

I was speechless. Is there anything colder than the human heart? You all scrutinized my flaws, gloating, especially Lan Quynh with her deeply cutting and biting words. Discarding all teacher-student affection, instead of sharing my difficulties, you are now coldly dissecting my body and my post-pregnancy singing voice.

It's heartbreaking that these are the very people I've poured my heart and soul into. I taught you all for free. I always thought of you all, but now you're hurting me by discussing, judging, and mocking me in a group with 33 members, all of whom are music school students.

I was trembling, my heart racing, and then I sat down and wondered why they did this to me? I stayed up all night reading every thank-you message they sent me, carefully reading the group chat messages to understand their motives, and it's been 10 days since I discovered the truth.

"I've regained my emotional balance now, and today I want to share this story. Because I know that if I don't bring it to light, not only I but many other artists will one day find themselves in the same situation as me, " Dinh Trang wrote on her personal page.

According to Dinh Trang, recovering her health and singing voice after giving birth was very difficult for her. However, she accepted those difficulties and always strived her best to regain her voice and figure. But when she returned to her profession, the very people who had once asked for her help and been grateful to her now mocked, scorned, and hindered the singer's inspiration to pursue her career.

In conclusion, the singer emphasized that everyone has the right to praise or criticize, and she always welcomes feedback positively. However, professional discussions should be conducted in a transparent and healthy manner with polite language to foster better behavior within the artistic community, especially among young artists just starting their artistic careers.

Dinh Trang said she was very upset and shocked when she read the messages that Lan Quynh, Ha My, and Minh Man had about her in the private group chat.

Dinh Trang's post immediately went viral on social media with 1,400 shares and 1,900 comments. Under the singer's post, numerous Vietnamese artists expressed their sympathy with Dinh Trang.

Singer Nguyen Tran Trung Quan wrote: " As someone who inspires others in the profession, trains, and mentors many generations of pop artists, I'm glad I haven't encountered a situation like the one above. And it's heartbreaking to read what I've seen. It's terrible. It's truly a case of spilled water. Life is inherently bitter, and I never imagined such a treacherous act of betraying one's teacher! I sympathize with you."

Singer Anh Thơ expressed: "I read Đinh Trang's story and my eyes welled up with tears. I know she loves her students very much, and she even asked me to teach some of her students when they got accepted into the Conservatory. She even said, 'Teacher, please help them because they are very poor.' I hope the students who come after her will learn from this experience."

Following singer Dinh Trang's story, singer Bao Yen - the winner of the 2015 Sao Mai classical music competition - also unexpectedly shared her own frustrating experience with two of the four individuals mentioned by Dinh Trang.

She called on fellow artists to join hands in boycotting online bullying and other unethical actions that some people have done, are doing, and will do to artists.

The winner of the 2015 Sao Mai singing competition emphasized that music really needs music-loving audiences. We always cherish and welcome friends of music, and constructive criticism is valuable.

However, acts of humiliation, ridicule, insult, mockery, and showing off one's acquired knowledge that divides fellow artists and creates chaos in the professional environment are destructive. The singer hopes that fellow artists will be able to practice their profession in a healthy artistic environment.

Lan Quynh wrote a status update apologizing and "threatening" to use legal means.

More than a day after Dinh Trang and Bao Yen's posts, on the morning of October 13th, singer Lan Quynh posted an apology on her personal page.

Lan Quỳnh apologized to the public for "the information that affected people's moods." She also admitted that she was wrong to have behaved inappropriately and "would like to learn deeply from her own mistakes."

However, at the end of the status, Lan Quynh affirmed: "The person I should apologize to if I have ever been ungrateful is my teacher - Deputy Head of the Vocal Department, Tan Nhan. She is someone I respect and who has taught me for the past three years; I would never betray her."

As for the person who falsely accused me, claiming to be my teacher and taking me as their student, with the aim of bringing me down and causing me mental, reputational, and financial ruin, the law will deal with them."

Immediately, many colleagues expressed their displeasure at this apology. Singer Tien Hung commented: "You should re-evaluate yourself. You were the one who approached Ms. Trang, asking her for advice and to help you prepare your songs for the competition."

Ms. Trang has dedicated her time and effort to me; that time is the time of a woman with two children, who is very tired, yet she still made time for me. Whether she taught you or not, she's still an older artist, and the fact that you created a group chat and spoke to her like that is already wrong.
