To make our homeland greener.
Over the past period, the Provincial Farmers' Association has regularly coordinated and organized activities to raise awareness about the role and responsibilities of all levels of the association and its farmer members in planting trees, protecting and developing forests; and providing technical guidance on planting and caring for trees to its members.
Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, Tran Van Ben, said: In the period from 2020 to 2023, based on more than 2,700 saplings including black star, green lim, lat hoa, giang huong, go mat, xa cu, and yellow Osaka that were supported, the Provincial Farmers' Association distributed them to local branches to organize tree planting campaigns combined with the "Saturday for New Rural Development" movement.
At the same time, the association required beneficiary households and units to sign a commitment to participate in the program, pledging to plant and care for the trees to ensure their healthy growth and not to harvest them. As a result, the survival rate of trees at all planting sites has reached 80% - 90%.
“Depending on the conditions, each association branch has different approaches such as building ‘Green, Clean, and Beautiful Roads’, taking responsibility for maintaining these roads; supporting members in creating livelihood gardens… The planting of trees, combined with care, protection, management, and supervision to ensure the trees grow well, has been enthusiastically embraced by farmer members, becoming a competitive movement in each branch and among each official, member, and farmer,” Mr. Ben informed.

In Cam Lo district, the movement to plant forests and green barren hills has been effectively implemented in recent years. On average, the district plants 1,650 hectares of concentrated forest and 150,000 scattered trees or more each year. This brings the total planted forest area in the district to over 18,500 hectares, including more than 1,460 hectares of large timber forests and forests certified by FSC sustainable forest management agencies.
In particular, in response to the program to plant 1 billion trees in the period 2021-2025 launched by the Prime Minister, in 2022, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Cam Lo district and connected with the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to plant 3 hectares with approximately 18,000 cinnamon trees in Cam Thuy commune.
Simultaneously, Cam Lo district and the Center for Resource and Environment Communication signed an agreement for the "Green Planting Campaign - Ecosystem Restoration" program for the 5-year period 2022-2027, focusing on planting 5.6 million cinnamon trees and 4,100 shade trees in Cam Lo district with the goal of greening barren hills and mountains, planting protective forests, ensuring environmental protection, increasing forest cover, and combating climate change.
To concretize Decision No. 524/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021, of the Prime Minister approving the project "Planting One Billion Scattered Trees" in the period 2021-2025, Directive No. 45/CT-TTg dated December 31, 2020, and the Prime Minister's message "For a Green Vietnam," in September 2021, the Provincial People's Committee issued the "Plan for Implementing the Project "Planting One Billion Trees" in the period 2021-2025 in Quang Tri Province." The plan aims to plant over 15 million trees by the end of 2025, including 10.7 million scattered trees in urban and rural areas and 4.3 million concentrated trees in protection forests, special-use forests, and production forests. This plan aims to contribute to environmental protection, climate change adaptation, socio-economic development, improving the quality of life for the people, and the sustainable development of the province. |
According to Tran Hoai Linh, Vice Chairman of the Cam Lo District People's Committee, over the past two years, the district has launched a tree planting campaign which has been very positively received by the people. Along with concentrated reforestation, Cam Lo district has directed agencies and units to develop specific plans for planting scattered trees at headquarters, cultural centers, and along transportation routes.
The movement has not only become a beautiful cultural tradition but also brings enormous socio-economic benefits to the locality; making the landscape increasingly green, clean, and beautiful, strengthening the ability to protect water resources, mitigating natural disasters, improving the living environment, and regulating the climate... From these movements, many exemplary individuals and models of tree planting have emerged in the district and have been praised and recognized.
Make tree planting a regular activity.
According to Phan Van Phuoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, to realize the goals set out in the project implementation plan, in recent years, the Provincial People's Committee has directed departments, agencies, and localities to effectively implement the "Tree Planting Festival in memory of President Ho Chi Minh" and the project to plant one billion trees as decided by the Prime Minister. The implementation of the project has created a competitive movement to call upon and mobilize the entire population to participate in tree planting and reforestation, becoming a regular, continuous, and effective activity throughout society.
At the same time, the province has also made efforts to mobilize various resources, especially from social resources, such as the "One Billion Trees Journey" in supporting seedlings for reforestation. This movement has received a positive response, making tree planting a regular task for all levels, sectors, socio-political organizations, and citizens. As a result, in the period 2021-2023, the entire province mobilized more than 200 billion VND to plant approximately 15 million trees.

According to the plan, in the period 2024-2025, the entire province is expected to continue planting approximately 6.2 million trees of various types. This includes planting about 920 hectares of concentrated forest, equivalent to 1.72 million trees, and planting nearly 4.5 million scattered trees.
Mr. Phuoc stated that, to achieve this goal, the agricultural sector is actively coordinating with departments, localities, and socio-political organizations to expand the mobilization of social resources for implementation. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is closely coordinating the registration of green space needs according to the annual plan, noting that the registration targets must include specific planting areas.
Organize the delivery, distribution, care, and planting of trees to ensure timely completion, adherence to seasons, and sufficient quantity and quality. Assign responsibilities to subordinate agencies and local authorities for the management of green spaces in the area.
At the same time, the unit will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training in disseminating information to the younger generation about the role of trees, aiming to raise community awareness of the benefits and value of forests, and the significance of planting trees and reforestation.
