Every book is a valuable lesson.
"No matter how difficult things get, don't lose heart. Just keep trying, persevere, and always believe in yourself, and you will achieve what you desire." That's the conclusion that Nahria Rose An Nhien (a Co-ho ethnic minority student in class 2B at Vo Thi Sau Primary School, Po To commune) reached after reading the book "I Go to School" by teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky, reprinted in 2023 by Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House.

With its profound educational value, the video introducing the book "I Go to School" by the student excellently won first prize at the primary school level in the "Online Book Introduction" competition organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
An Nhien shared: "The book 'I Go to School' was a gift from my mother during a trip to Pleiku. It's an autobiography about the unfortunate childhood but also the perseverance and resilience of teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky, who, despite his disability, achieved success."
“I was very surprised and delighted to win a high prize in the competition. I want to tell my friends that: While phones can provide fun games, books bring us knowledge, dreams, and boundless imagination. When we read books, we learn how to live well, how to love, and become smarter every day. So, if you read a good book, don't hesitate to share it with your teachers, friends, and parents so that the joy of reading can spread,” An Nhien expressed.
For Nay H'Hiêng, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Ia Sao commune, winning third prize in the competition was a breakthrough, a personal achievement, as she only received an honorable mention last year. Through the book "How Much Is Youth Worth?" by author Rosie Nguyen, first published by the Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House in 2016, H'Hiêng understood that: "Youth is not for hesitation, but for action; not for living to please others, but for living fully with oneself."
Thanks to this experience, Nay H'Hiêng, who used to struggle with countless choices, question whether she was living true to her passion, and fear stepping out of her comfort zone, has become more mature and has a more positive mindset when facing difficulties and challenges. In her work with the Youth Union, she always upholds a sense of responsibility, boldly participates in activities and movements, and proposes and advises on organizing many practical activities for young people.
Meanwhile, Ms. Y Mi Ra (a Bahnar woman and member of the Farmers' Association of Ia Tul commune) chose to introduce to readers the book "Colors of Folk Culture," Volume 2, published by Da Nang Publishing House in 2027. Using traditional festivals in her village as the backdrop, Ms. Mi Ra's video clip helped viewers visualize more clearly the customs, traditions, and unique cultural features of the ethnic communities in the Central Highlands.
Ms. Mi Ra said: "This book is a valuable resource that helps people like me, who live in the mountains, to understand, love, and be proud of our culture, as well as to be determined to preserve, promote, and share the beauty of our ethnic culture with everyone."
Promoting a reading culture in the community.
Although only in second grade, An Nhien has cultivated a daily reading habit. This is the secret to her high achievement in the competition. Her love of reading originated from and was nurtured by the fairy tales her mother used to tell her every night. As she grew up, her parents often chose books as gifts for her whenever they returned from business trips. Therefore, she possesses a vast collection of books and stories in many genres.
"I often participate in book presentations during the weekly flag-raising ceremony or class activities. I also participate in donating books to underprivileged students," An Nhien said.

With the aim of spreading a love of books among young people, Ms. H'Hiêng and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the commune mobilized efforts to build a "Youth Bookcase," thereby helping young people access good books, equip themselves with useful knowledge, and live more meaningful lives each day.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Thai Son, Director of the Ia Pa Cultural, Information & Sports Center, said: "The 'Online Book Introduction' competition is a valuable platform for book lovers. The participation of many individuals from ethnic minority groups demonstrates the strong reach of this competition. Two individuals from the former Ia Pa district, one Jrai and one Bahnar, won prizes in this year's competition. With meticulous preparation, the videos received hundreds, even thousands, of likes and shares, thereby contributing to inspiring and spreading a reading culture in the community."
