Spreading the culture of sharing

A wave of support for domestic artists among young people is booming, as evidenced by well-organized and large-scale activities.

The recent success of a series of reality TV shows about music has changed public perception, especially among younger audiences.

Willing to spend

Nguyen Hoang Vy (24 years old) used to only be interested in international showbiz like K-Pop, China, Europe, and America... but now she is very excited to follow Vietnamese idols. Like her peers, she is willing to invest both time and money to attend her idols' events.

Not to be outdone by international fandoms, young people like Vy are boldly launching large-scale projects. They rent LED screens in prime locations to run promotional clips, organize bus tours using double-decker buses printed with the artists' photos. More practically, they donate food trucks to film sets or events. In addition, there are fan-made projects ranging from fans, t -shirts, and scarves to unique souvenirs, and even mascots modeled after their idols.

Tran Thuy Trang (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) and many other fans express their admiration for artists through fan art. This includes hand-drawn or digital paintings, miniature statues, stuffed animals, etc., revolving around a specific individual or performance. Besides the "view-boosting" campaign for artists on YouTube, fans also don't miss the opportunity to see their idols "in the flesh" at concerts. Concerts with average ticket prices ranging from 2 to 8 million VND are always packed and become trending topics online for days.

Each fan club (FC) has its own unique name, reflecting the close relationship between the artist and their fans. Fan meetings – where artists interact and meet their admirers – are always sold out. The activities are professionally organized and create a widespread impact. This shows that a large number of financially independent young audiences are willing to spend a significant amount of money on what they believe is worthwhile. On the other hand, many young artists are increasingly proving their abilities and have had a profound influence on their audiences.

For the community

Undeniably, the talent, dedication, and effort of artists satisfy audiences. However, it is the younger generation, with their creativity and energy, that plays a positive role in shaping artists' careers. Gen Z audiences – the main force in fandoms – are proving their power and ability to influence the domestic showbiz industry.

A positive aspect is that young people support their idols not only for the satisfaction of their spiritual and entertainment needs but also because of the artists' beautiful personalities and lifestyles. Singer-songwriter Trang Phap's FC Kandee (fan club) diligently organizes many charitable activities for projects such as "Small Toys, Big Joy," "Full Stomach for 0 Dong," "Feeding Children," "One Body Village," and non-profit organizations like the Wildlife Conservation Research Center and SOS Children's Village. The singer said: "I am proud of your dedication. In the future, we have many more community-oriented projects." Trang Phap attracts a large Gen Z audience with her youthful and sweet style. Her fan club behaves in a civilized and kind manner both online and in real life. Therefore, she feels warm and unconditionally loved.

Through the "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles" program, the versatile artist Jun Pham, along with philanthropists, raised approximately 4.6 billion VND to support over 150 children with heart disease. Actor Duy Khanh contributed 400 million VND, rounding the total to 5 billion VND. The donations were made possible thanks to the 9x actor selling souvenirs through his fan club. Instead of spending money buying gifts for their idols, many young fans often choose to donate to the charitable activities that the artists call for.

Another advantage of young people following domestic idols is the encouragement and the powerful awakening of patriotism and national pride through newly reinterpreted songs that are rich in Vietnamese cultural identity. Traditional Vietnamese folk songs like Cheo and Cai Luong appeared at a concert attended by tens of thousands of young people, who memorized them and sang along. Particularly "sensational" was the performance of "Trong Com" (Rice Drum) by People's Artist Tu Long, Cuong Seven, and Soobin Hoang Son. The artists skillfully combined familiar folk melodies with trendy arrangements, staging, choreography, and rap. Immediately after the premiere, many young people, inspired by the performance, especially Soobin's playing of the zither, boldly showcased their talent in traditional Vietnamese musical instruments through tens of thousands of videos . This is not a fleeting phenomenon, but rather a way for young people to collectively affirm their appreciation for, connect with, and spread the culture and roots of their homeland.

Trang Phap's team and fan club once created a special music video, "Dap Gio," which compiled images of all the milestones and stages in the artist's career, deeply moving her.
