The chrysanthemum garden of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thong's family, intended for the 2026 New Year celebration, has begun to show off its vibrant yellow blossoms.

Many kinds of flowers are in bloom.

As a household with a large area dedicated to flower cultivation, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mao's family is focusing on growing traditional flowers this year, such as chrysanthemums, gladiolus, lilies, and other varieties. Based on the market demand for Tet flowers in previous years, Mrs. Mao estimates the number of plants to be grown, with tens of thousands of chrysanthemum plants, approximately 8,000 gladiolus plants, and nearly 6,000 gladiolus plants…

Because many people inquired about buying night-blooming jasmine last year, Mrs. Mão has planted about 200 more pots this year to serve the market. Some of the flowers in her garden, intended for the Lunar New Year, have already started to bloom, while others are growing well and are ready to burst into bloom just in time for Tet.

Ms. Mão stated that for flower growers, meeting market demand is the primary factor in choosing flower varieties. Traditional flowers like chrysanthemums, gladioli, and lilies are both beautiful and long-lasting, and reasonably priced, making them always popular and easy to sell. In addition, flowers with eye-catching colors that can be displayed indoors or outdoors, such as petunias and chrysanthemums, have also attracted buyers for Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations in recent years.

Also among the households with a large area dedicated to growing flowers and ornamental plants, in addition to flowers, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thong's family also devotes a large portion of their land to growing ornamental peach trees. His peach garden has all kinds, from traditional peach branches and grafted peach trees... At this time, the peach trees are growing well, and the growers are beginning to shape and style them.

Mr. Thong said that he maintains daily watering for the peach trees and sprays to control aphids… When November arrives in the lunar calendar, he will strip the leaves so that the peach trees can focus on nourishing buds and creating beautiful flowers. To meet the demand for early Tet celebrations, his family also adjusts the care regimen accordingly, preparing a certain quantity to ensure that the trees will bloom in time for Tet 2026.

Recently, keeping up with consumer trends, farmers in Phù Liễn have been learning and improving their peach tree cultivation skills to create grafted peach trees on the trunks and roots of wild peach trees. These grafted peach trees, with their ancient, gnarled roots of wild peach trees, are laden with buds and flowers, and their blossoms are vibrant, making them almost always more sought-after than grafted peach trees.

We hope for favorable weather.
Flower cultivation in Phù Liễn began nearly 30 years ago. Recognizing the instability and low income of rice farming, some villagers went to Da Lat to learn flower cultivation, seeking a new direction for agricultural production.

In 2019, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province (formerly) recognized Phu Lien as a traditional flower and ornamental plant craft village. This was also the first craft village in Hai Duong province in this field. To this day, flowers bloom beautifully all year round in Phu Lien village, and are even more vibrant during Tet (Lunar New Year).

Every weekend, the flower village also welcomes a large number of tourists who come to visit, admire the flowers, take photos, and learn about the flower and ornamental plant cultivation profession here.

Currently, the village has nearly 400 households participating in growing flowers and ornamental plants on an area of about 22 hectares, of which 70% is planted with peach trees. The peach tree growers' skills are increasingly improving, and Phu Lien peach blossoms are becoming more and more famous in the market. Some beautiful orchards are completely sold out to customers even before the leaves are stripped off.

Customers buying peach blossoms come not only from the local area but also from Quang Ninh, Hanoi , Thanh Hoa, and other places. It is estimated that each year, peach blossom growers earn between 100 and 120 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), 10 to 15 times more than rice farming. Many households enjoy a comfortable life.

According to Ms. Dang Thi Chuot, head of the Phu Lien village Farmers' Association, gardeners are currently focusing on caring for their Tet flowers. Many households are keeping lights on all night to help the plants grow and look beautiful, ensuring that the flowers bud and bloom at the desired time for Tet.

Petunias are a type of flower that can be "protected" to bloom precisely during the Lunar New Year.

However, many flower growers are worried because this year's weather is unpredictable. There were some mild cold spells in August and September (lunar calendar), predicting an early winter, but even now, almost at the end of October (lunar calendar), it hasn't been as cold as in previous years. This is an unfavorable weather pattern for flower growers.

If warm, sunny weather persists, the flowers may bloom 10-15 days earlier than expected, so farmers are tending to their plants while monitoring the weather to make adjustments. However, the outcome of the Tet flower crop is almost entirely dependent on the weather.

Despite concerns about unpredictable weather, flower growers in Phu Lien diligently care for each peach tree and flower bed, hoping to bring the most beautiful products to the market. This diligence not only creates the distinctive Tet colors of the craft village but also contributes to preserving and promoting the traditional values of the area.
