The chrysanthemum garden of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thong's family, intended for the 2026 New Year celebration, has begun to show off its vibrant yellow blossoms.

Many kinds of flowers are in bloom.

As a household with a large flower growing area, this year Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mao's family still focuses on growing traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums, peonies, lilies, etc. Based on the demand for Tet flowers in previous years, Mrs. Mao calculated the quantity to plant with tens of thousands of chrysanthemums, about 8,000 peonies, nearly 6,000 lilies...

Because last year many people asked to buy hyacinth, this year Mrs. Mao also planted about 200 more pots to serve the market. Some of the flowers for Tet in her garden have started to bloom, some are growing well to bloom in time for Tet.

Ms. Mao said that for flower growers, meeting market demand is the first factor in deciding on flower varieties. Traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums, monochrysanthemums, and lilies are both beautiful and durable, and have reasonable prices, so they are always popular and easy to consume. In addition, flowers with eye-catching colors that can be displayed indoors or outdoors such as primroses and carnations have also attracted flower buyers for Tet in recent years.

Also one of the households with a large area for growing flowers and ornamental plants, in addition to growing flowers, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thong's family also spends a large area growing ornamental peach trees. His peach garden has all kinds of peach trees, from peach branches, traditional peach trees to grafted peach trees... At this time, the peach trees are growing well, and growers are also starting to shape and position the peach trees.

Mr. Thong said that every day he maintains enough water for the peach trees, sprays to kill aphids... When the 11th lunar month comes, he will strip the leaves so that the peach trees can concentrate on growing buds and creating beautiful flowers. To serve the needs of many people to celebrate Tet early, his family also adjusts the care regimen accordingly, preparing a certain amount to ensure that the flowers will bloom on Tet 2026.

Recently, to catch up with consumer tastes, Phu Lien farmers have learned and improved their peach growing skills to create grafted peach products on the trunk and rootstock of wild peach trees. The grafted peach trees have ancient, rough roots of wild peach trees, full of buds, flowers, and bright flowers, so almost every year they are "out of stock" compared to the peach trees with trunks and branches.

We hope for favorable weather.
Flower growing in Phu Lien started nearly 30 years ago. Realizing that rice cultivation was unstable and had low income, some villagers went to Da Lat to learn flower growing and find a new direction for agricultural production.

In 2019, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province (formerly) recognized Phu Lien as a traditional flower and ornamental plant craft village. This is also the first craft village in Hai Duong province in this field. Up to now, the flowers always bloom in Phu Lien village all year round and are even more brilliant during Tet.

Every weekend, the flower village also welcomes a large number of tourists who come to visit, admire the flowers, take photos, and learn about the flower and ornamental plant cultivation profession here.

Currently, the craft village has nearly 400 households participating in growing flowers and ornamental plants with an area of about 22 hectares, of which 70% of the area is used for growing peaches. The peach growing skills of the people are getting better and better, Phu Lien peach flowers are becoming more and more famous in the market. There are beautiful gardens that have been booked by customers even before the peaches have been stripped of their leaves.

Peach buyers are not only local but also from Quang Ninh, Hanoi , Thanh Hoa... coming to buy peaches. It is estimated that each year flower and peach growers earn from 100 - 120 million VND/sao, 10 - 15 times more than rice cultivation. Many households have a well-off life.

Ms. Dang Thi Chuot, Head of the Farmers' Association of Phu Lien village, said that gardeners are currently focusing on taking care of Tet flowers. Many households keep the lights on all night to help the plants grow and look beautiful, ensuring that the flowers bud and bloom on time for Tet as desired.

Petunias are a type of flower that can be "protected" to bloom precisely during the Lunar New Year.

However, many gardeners are worried because the weather this year is unpredictable. There were some mild cold spells in the 8th and 9th lunar months, and it is predicted that winter will be cold early, but until now, almost the end of the 10th lunar month, it has not been as cold as usual. This is an unfavorable weather pattern for flower growers.

If the warm weather continues, the flowers may bloom 10-15 days earlier than expected, so farmers should take care of the plants and listen to the weather to adjust. However, the results of the Tet flower crop are almost entirely dependent on the weather.

Despite many concerns about the erratic weather, Phu Lien flower growers still diligently take care of each peach tree and flower bed with the hope of bringing the most beautiful products to the market. Such diligence not only creates the typical Tet colors of the craft village but also contributes to preserving and promoting the traditional values here.
