Busy with production for the Lunar New Year season.
Van Thang commune has over 400 households engaged in the agarwood trade. Agarwood production is more closely linked through the Van Thang Agarwood Cooperative, from raw materials and processing to packaging and distribution. This allows for better control over product quality and progress. From mid-November (lunar calendar), businesses and households begin preparing for the Tet (Lunar New Year) season. By early December (lunar calendar), orders are completed and shipped to dealers and distributors to serve the market. Mr. Le Minh Thanh, Director of Van Thang Agarwood Cooperative, said: “The cooperative has 14 members. During the Tet holiday of 2026, the volume of goods increased two to three times compared to normal days. The most popular items during this period are agarwood incense (including incense sticks, stickless incense, cone incense, cloud-patterned incense, and spiral incense). Normally, the cooperative sells about 100kg of incense per month, but during the Tet season, it sells about 300kg/month. Therefore, people hope that this year's Tet season will be bountiful, bringing in high income to promote the development of the craft village.”

At the Duy Nhat Agarwood Production Facility (Phu Hoi 1 village), everyone is busy carving and shaping agarwood, and making agarwood incense cones. After going through many meticulous steps, batches of incense cones gradually take shape, emitting a gentle fragrance. Production has increased, making the pace of work more lively and bustling. On average, the facility produces about 1 ton of various types of incense per month, increasing to 2 tons per month during Tet (Lunar New Year). Incense sticks are priced from 200,000 to 500,000 VND/kg, while incense cones and cloud-patterned incense range from 2 to 5 million VND/kg. Among these, the 500,000 VND/kg incense sticks and 5 million VND/kg incense cones are the best-selling items at the facility.
At the Van Linh Incense Production Facility (Phu Hoi 1 village), workers are also busily making various types of incense sticks and drying them in the sun to meet deadlines. The incense sticks are neatly arranged, spread out under the sun, emitting a gentle agarwood fragrance. After drying to the required standard, the incense is packaged, ready for shipment to distributors and retail outlets. Each step is meticulously carried out, ensuring product quality for consumers during the Tet holiday.
Creating favorable conditions for the development of traditional craft villages.
Currently, the agarwood incense making industry provides regular and seasonal employment for approximately 1,000 workers in the commune, with incomes ranging from 5 to 7 million VND per person per month. Many stages of the agarwood production process are suitable for female workers, helping local people find stable employment. Previously, Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Thanh (Phu Hoi 1 village) worked various jobs, resulting in unstable income. Since becoming involved in agarwood incense making at the Van Linh Agarwood Production Facility, she has earned a steady income of 5-6 million VND per month, leading to a more stable life and allowing her to confidently commit to the profession.

Ms. Ha Thi My Linh, Head of the Economic Department of Van Thang Commune, said that in recent years, 24 agarwood products in the commune have been recognized as OCOP products, including 8 products achieving 4 stars. This has contributed to increasing the value of the products, building prestige for the craft village, and opening up opportunities to access larger markets.
