The President of the Vietnam Women's Union offers incense in commemoration of Lady Trieu.
Lady Trieu, whose given name was Trieu Thi Trinh, was born on October 2nd, 226 (the year of the Fire Horse) in the Quan Yen region, now part of Dinh Tien commune, Yen Dinh district, Thanh Hoa province.
Growing up unwilling to endure the oppression and exploitation of the northern feudal regime, Trieu Thi Trinh boldly declared: "I want to ride the strong winds, trample the fierce waves, slay the whales in the East Sea, drive out the Wu invaders, reclaim the land, and break the yoke of slavery, rather than bowing down to become someone's concubine."
In early 248, Trieu Thi Trinh and her brother gathered and led the people of Cuu Chan in an uprising, "attacking and besieging towns and villages," and the rebellion quickly spread to Giao Chi district, causing "chaos throughout the provinces and districts."
As the rebel forces grew stronger, the Wu dynasty, fearing for their safety, dispatched 8,000 troops under the command of Lu Yin to suppress the uprising.
At the Bo Dien base (centered in the Phu Dien area, Trieu Loc commune, Hau Loc district, Thanh Hoa province today), more than 30 fierce battles took place, depleting the enemy's forces. Luc Dan sent additional troops to reinforce the base, besieging it and employing dirty tricks and despicable tactics, "facing the difficult enemy."
On February 22nd, 248 AD (the year of Mậu Thìn), Lady Triệu and three Lý generals perished at Tùng Mountain in a fierce battle where the disparity in forces favored the enemy.
The Ba Trieu historical site in Trieu Loc commune, Hau Loc district, Thanh Hoa province was recognized as a special national historical and architectural monument in 2014, and the Ba Trieu Temple Festival, with its historical, cultural, and scientific values, was inscribed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2022.
Following the incense offering ceremony and the commemoration of the heroic martyr Trieu Thi Trinh and her generals and soldiers, the opening drum ceremony marked the opening of the Trieu Thi Trinh Temple Festival 2024. In his opening speech, Pham Nguyen Hong, Director of the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized: The Trieu Thi Trinh Uprising is a glorious chapter in the history of the Vietnamese nation. The national heroine Trieu Thi Trinh excellently continued the great cause of the Trung Sisters; glorifying the patriotic tradition and the indomitable will of Vietnamese women. Our nation will forever remember her contributions and be eternally proud of the heroic martyr Trieu Thi Trinh.
Next, a theatrical performance will recreate the life and career of the national heroine Trieu Thi Trinh, along with the resilience and courage of the Party Committee, government, military, and people of all ethnic groups in Thanh Hoa province during the period of building the homeland and the country.
Also on this occasion, the Thanh Hoa Center for Historical Research and Cultural Heritage Preservation is displaying a photo exhibition about historical sites and scenic spots in Thanh Hoa, promoting its tourism potential and advantages, and serving the needs of visitors from all over the country who wish to learn and explore.
