La Gi town is not large, covering an area of over 180 square kilometers, located in the southwest of Binh Thuan province. Many people often choose to visit the bustling Phan Thiet, rarely remembering La Gi, which is only about 60 kilometers from the provincial capital of Binh Thuan.

Ox cart tracks on the beach of La Gi town on a crisp early morning.
VO TIEN
Waking up a little after 5 a.m., head to the beach in front of the resort to catch an ox cart to the Cam Binh seafood market. From the early morning, ox carts are already parked on the sand, waiting for tourists . These rudimentary carts are pulled by oxen, with the driver holding a rope through the animal's nose to steer.

Ox carts carry tourists for sightseeing or to the fish market on the beach.

The fish market was only a few hundred meters away, a leisurely walk would take a short while. But I chose to ride in the ox cart, thinking it would be a good start to the day and that the cart driver would have a busy day. The round-trip ox cart ride was very cheap; I gave the driver exactly one hundred thousand dong as a thank you for waiting and taking me back.

Ox carts carrying passengers on the beach are probably unique to La Gi.

The fish market opens on the Cam Binh beach in Tan Phuoc commune while it's still twilight. As the sun rises, a plethora of fish, crabs, squid, shrimp, and other seafood glisten in the morning light on the tarpaulins spread across the sand.

This place is like a smaller wholesale market. The buyers are mainly seafood traders from the town center who go out to sea early in the morning to get their catch. Tourists also come in large numbers, especially on weekends, buying seafood to take back to their accommodations to cook and eat hot, or packing it in ice to take home.

The market was open, with many customers, and the fishermen continued to remove fish from their nets.
VO TIEN
After a night of fishing, many fishermen's boats dock at this beach to unload their catch at the market. While I didn't get to see the scene of shrimp and fish being transferred from the boats to shore, I did witness fishermen sitting in small basket boats interspersed among the stalls, removing seafood caught in their nets, mostly crabs.

The seafood at the market is mostly caught near the shore, making it fresh and inexpensive.

One vendor said that compared to seafood at the city market, the prices here are much cheaper, the difference depending on the type, but the most important thing is that it's fresh. However, experienced seafood buyers advised checking carefully to avoid frozen seafood that might be mixed in with the fresh seafood.
The fish market is held on the sandy beach, while tourists frolic in the waves. Out at sea, many people travel in inflatable boats and speedboats. Along the shore, groups of tourists leisurely stroll around in ox carts...

Right next to it is a row of stalls serving ready-made dishes. This place is quieter than the bustling scene of the nearby fish market. The female stall owners set up their stalls early, constantly busy preparing various dishes from snails, squid, shrimp, etc. The aroma spreads everywhere, attracting many people to come and choose.

The fish market only operates for a few hours in the morning.

The Cam Binh seafood market is relatively new, initially situated where fishermen docked their boats after a fishing trip. As the sun rises and the heat intensifies, the market gradually thins out. Early seafood buyers leave, and tourists depart one by one.

Cam Binh coastal village market is an interesting destination in La Gi town.

The daily life of the local people is always fascinating for tourists to explore and experience. The bustling, lively fish markets right on the beach, like Cam Binh, often pique the curiosity of many. The vibrant, cheerful atmosphere of the fishing village, the fresh seafood, and the delicious flavors make for a memorable experience in this small town steeped in the essence of the open sea.
