Leverkusen and PSG win the cup.

The 0-3 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final earlier this week did not dampen Leverkusen's spirits as they faced Kaiserslautern in the German Cup. Coach Xabi Alonso's players started dominantly and opened the scoring after just 16 minutes.

Patrik Schick and Florian Wirtz combined to trouble the Kaiserslautern defense. The ball rebounded perfectly to Granit Xhaka, who unleashed a powerful shot from 25 meters, leaving goalkeeper Julian Krahl helpless.

Just when it seemed Leverkusen were about to secure a resounding victory, they found themselves reduced to ten men in the 44th minute. Defender Odilon Kossounou received his second yellow card after a foul on an opponent and was sent off.

However, Kaiserlautern struggled despite having a man advantage. Leverkusen defended their 1-0 lead until the final whistle. They even came close to a more emphatic victory if Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz hadn't squandered chances.

Leverkusen won the German Cup and completed a domestic double in the 2023/2024 season. Prior to that, coach Xabi Alonso's team had already won the Bundesliga undefeated.

The French Cup final marked Kylian Mbappe's farewell to PSG. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old star was unable to score due to being closely marked by Lyon's defense.

But despite tightly marking Kylian Mbappe, Lyon's defense was still breached by PSG's other attacking threats. Ousmane Dembele and Fabian Ruiz scored against Lyon in quick succession within 12 minutes, from the 22nd to the 34th minute.

After the break, Lyon pulled one back to 1-2 thanks to Jake O'Brien's goal in the 55th minute. This goal made the second half very tense. However, PSG held on to win the match 2-1.

Coach Luis Enrique and his team achieved a hat-trick of domestic titles in the 2023/2024 season, including Ligue 1, the French Super Cup, and the French Cup. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe had a beautiful farewell with PSG.

In the final round of La Liga, Real Madrid had a less than ideal start to their run-up to the Champions League final, drawing 0-0 with Real Betis. Notably, this was also the last match at the Bernabeu for midfielder Toni Kroos – who will retire after EURO 2024.

Results of some other notable matches on the night of May 25th/26th: Atletico Madrid beat Sociedad 2-0 in La Liga, AC Milan drew 3-3 with Salernitana, Juventus defeated Monza 2-0 in Serie A. Notably, Al Ain won the AFC Champions League 5-1 against Yokohama F.Marinos in the second leg of the final after losing 1-2 in the first leg.
