Chicago Fire has just announced a two-year contract with the greatest goalscorer in Polish soccer history. The deal is now only awaiting the completion of visa procedures and international transfer certificates.
The 38-year-old star is expected to make his debut for his new team in the match against Vancouver on July 16th.
Lewandowski joined MLS after years of conquering the Bundesliga and La Liga, thus concluding a glorious European journey filled with countless goals and titles.
Chicago Fire were third in the Eastern Conference with 26 points after 14 games when the league took a break for the 2026 World Cup .
They opened a new training center last year and are also proceeding with the construction of McDonald's Park, a dedicated stadium, which is expected to open in 2028.
Lewandowski is seen as the perfect fit for a larger project for the American team. There, he will occupy one of the three 'designated players' slots for Chicago Fire, a group of players allowed to receive salaries exceeding the MLS salary cap.

The contract covers the remainder of 2026, a shortened season in spring 2027, and extends through the 2027-2028 season, when MLS is expected to switch to a summer-spring schedule modeled after Europe.
Coach Gregg Berhalter asserted that Chicago Fire didn't bring Lewandowski in just for media hype, but needed the experience and composure of a top striker.
"His arrival confirms our ambition to compete for the title and raises the club's standards to a level befitting this city. We are eager to work with Robert and let Chicago see firsthand why he is one of the most respected sporting icons in the world," emphasized coach Gregg Berhalter.
Lewandowski left Barcelona after four seasons with three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey. The Polish striker scored 119 goals in 192 appearances for the Camp Nou club.
Previously, Lewandowski scored 312 goals in 384 Bundesliga matches for Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning 10 German championships.
And for the national team, he holds the record for 167 appearances and 89 goals, almost double that of any other Polish player.
