Summer vacation schedule for students nationwide in 2026.

Most localities will end the school year no later than May 31, 2026, while some places will allow students to finish earlier depending on the progress of teaching.

According to the general timetable for the 2025-2026 school year issued by the Ministry of Education and Training , preschool and primary and secondary school students nationwide must complete their programs and finish the school year before May 31, 2026. After this date, students and teachers will enter their summer vacation, depending on the specific schedule developed by each locality.

In Hanoi , students are expected to complete their curriculum and conclude the school year on May 30th, before beginning their summer vacation. Many other localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Nghe An, Bac Ninh, Lao Cai, etc., have also set schedules to end the school year before or on May 31st.

In addition, some localities are giving students a few days' break earlier than the general average. For example, in Ca Mau, the second semester ends on May 23rd, after which schools will dedicate more time to completing the final summary before students officially go on summer vacation. Quang Ninh, on the other hand, plans to give preschool and primary school children a break from May 29th, and secondary and continuing education students a break from May 30th, 2026.

According to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2025-2026 school year must ensure 35 weeks of actual learning, including 18 weeks in the first semester and 17 weeks in the second semester. The first semester must end before January 18, 2026. Local authorities may flexibly adjust the detailed plan, but the school year cannot be extended by more than two weeks beyond the prescribed timeframe without the Ministry's approval.

After the school year ends, localities will assess and certify the completion of the primary school program and the graduation from lower secondary school before June 30th. Enrollment for the first grades of each level must be completed before July 31st to prepare for the new school year.

In the event of natural disasters, extreme weather, or other exceptional circumstances, education and training departments may adjust the school schedule or organize make-up classes to ensure the completion of the curriculum as prescribed.

Therefore, under the current general plan, the majority of students nationwide will begin their summer vacation on June 1, 2026. A few exceptional cases (such as final-year students or those attending boarding schools) may end later to ensure sufficient time for revision and exams.
