Lunar New Year Holiday Schedule 2024

Lunar New Year holiday for the Year of the Dragon 2024 from February 8-14, 2024, and National Day holiday from August 31 to September 3, 2023

Previously, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs proposed two options for this longest holiday of the year.

Option 1

Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be on leave from Thursday, February 8, 2024, to Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (i.e., from the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon). With this plan, civil servants and public employees will have 7 days off for the 2024 Lunar New Year (including 5 days of Lunar New Year holiday and 2 days of compensatory leave for weekly days off as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code).

Option 2

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed a one-day holiday before Tet and a four-day holiday after Tet. Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be on holiday from Friday, February 9, 2024, to Thursday, February 15, 2024 (i.e., from the 30th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit to the 6th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon).

Under this plan, civil servants and public employees will also have 7 days off for the Lunar New Year (including 5 days of Lunar New Year holiday and 2 days of compensatory leave for weekly days off, as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code).

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, both proposed options have the same number of days off, but the ministry recommends choosing option 1 because it ensures a balance of time off before and after Tet.
