The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs announces the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for the Year of the Dragon and the National Day holiday in 2024 for officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers.
Officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers will have 7 days off for the Lunar New Year (Year of the Dragon).
According to an announcement from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), officials, civil servants, and employees will have a Lunar New Year holiday in 2024 from Thursday, February 8, 2024 (corresponding to the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit) until Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (corresponding to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon).
This holiday period includes 5 days of Lunar New Year holiday and 2 days of compensatory leave for weekly days off as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
Public officials and employees will have the National Day holiday in 2024 from Saturday, August 31st to Tuesday, September 3rd.
This holiday period includes two days off for National Day and two days off for the weekend.
Agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule in 2024 should note the need to arrange and organize their work departments appropriately to ensure continuous work and provide good service to organizations and the public.
Agencies and units that do not follow a fixed Saturday and Sunday weekly holiday schedule will base their holiday arrangements on their specific programs and plans.
Lunar New Year and National Day 2024 holiday schedule for workers.
For employees not employed by administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, or socio-political organizations, employers may choose the following options for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2024:
For the Lunar New Year holiday, employers can choose either 1 day at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 4 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 3 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Rabbit and 2 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
For the National Day holiday, employers can choose one of two days: Sunday, September 1st, or Tuesday, September 3rd.
Employers must notify employees of their Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans for 2024 at least 30 days in advance.
If a weekly day off coincides with a public holiday, employees are entitled to take a compensatory day off on the following workday.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs encourages employers to apply the same Lunar New Year holiday schedule for employees as it does for civil servants and public employees.
Lunar New Year holiday (Year of the Dragon) from February 8-14, 2024
According to Official Letter 8662/VPCP-KGVX dated November 3, 2023, considering the proposal of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in document No. 4594/LĐTBXH-ATLĐ dated October 27, 2023, regarding the proposed Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has the following opinion:
We agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in the aforementioned document regarding the Lunar New Year holiday from February 8, 2024 to February 14, 2024 and the National Day holiday from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024.
The Prime Minister has instructed the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to inform administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and workers about the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2024.
The National Day holiday in 2024 will be from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024.
