According to Bild newspaper, more than 150 police officers and investigators unexpectedly raided the DFB headquarters. The investigation focuses on allegations of favoritism towards certain guests during Germany's hosting of EURO 2024.
The suspicion centers on the illegal allocation of match tickets, hotel rooms, and other related benefits to individuals with "close connections."

Not only was the DFB headquarters searched, but investigators also looked into town halls and administrative offices in the localities that had hosted EURO 2024 matches.
The scope of the search suggests that authorities are clarifying the responsibilities of the relevant entities in the organization of the tournament, rather than focusing solely on the German football governing body.
Herbert Reul, the Home Secretary of North Rhine-Westphalia, affirmed that any improper acceptance of benefits in the public sector will be dealt with severely.
"Football tickets are not part of a salary. Anyone in the public service expecting bribes will face us," Herbert Reul declared.
According to Mr. Reul, major sporting events can only be successful if they maintain public trust. Therefore, authorities will not allow that trust to be eroded by favoritism such as invitations, football tickets, or privileges granted to certain groups.

The incident added to the gloom of a week for German football. The four-time world champions lost to Paraguay in the round of 32 after a penalty shootout, marking their first defeat in a penalty shootout at the World Cup.
This defeat further extends the decline of German football since their 2014 World Cup victory.
The German team, previously eliminated in the group stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, suffered a painful defeat to Paraguay, becoming one of the biggest surprises at the 2026 World Cup.
The DFB has not issued an official comment, and the investigating authorities have not yet announced their conclusions on the matter.
However, the move is adding significant pressure to the German football governing body, which is already under scrutiny after years of the national team failing to meet expectations.
