On the morning of March 31, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences , said that four consecutive earthquakes occurred in the Kon Plong district (Kon Tum province) early this morning.

The latest earthquake, measuring 2.9 on March 31st, occurred at 9:28 AM in Kon Plông district, with a focal depth of approximately 8.1 km.

The disaster risk level is 0. The Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor these earthquakes.

The first earthquake occurred at 4:08 AM with a magnitude of 3.1 (M). Approximately two minutes later, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3 occurred.

At 4:46 AM, another earthquake measuring 2.6 magnitude occurred in the Kon Plông district.

The epicenter depth of all three earthquakes was approximately 8.1 km.

Mr. Xuan Anh assessed that all three earthquakes had a natural disaster risk level of 0 (causing no damage).

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences is currently continuing to monitor this earthquake.

At 4:38 PM on March 30th, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake also occurred in Kon Plông district, with a focal depth of approximately 8.2 km. The natural disaster risk level is 0.

From April 2021 to the present, hundreds of earthquakes have occurred in Kon Tum, concentrated in the Kon Plông district, with some earthquakes causing widespread tremors.

The largest earthquake occurred at noon on July 28, 2024, with a magnitude of 5, preceded by a 4.7 magnitude earthquake on August 23, 2022.

According to Mr. Xuan Anh, "earthquake-triggered seismic activity" is the cause of the earthquakes in Kon Tum province in recent years.

"According to preliminary studies, earthquakes in Kon Tum are predicted to continue in the near future, but are unlikely to exceed 5.5 magnitude. However, more detailed studies are still needed to assess seismic activity in this area," Mr. Xuan Anh stated.
