Salah is likely to leave Liverpool. |
Speaking after being benched for three consecutive matches, Salah declared that his relationship with coach Slot had completely collapsed. The Egyptian striker felt like he had been "thrown out" by the club and had become the scapegoat for the Premier League champions' poor run of results.
"I said many times that I had a good relationship with the coach, and then suddenly there was no connection," Salah said. "I don't know why, but it was clear that someone didn't want me to stay. I felt like all the responsibility was being put on me."
Salah insists his love for Liverpool will never change, but admits the current situation is unacceptable. He believes he has given enough to not have to fight every day for his place.
Amid the tension, BBC Sport revealed that Liverpool were ready to sell Salah. Saudi Arabian clubs immediately joined the fray, with Al-Hilal considered the most promising candidate. However, the two sides have not yet officially negotiated.
Salah has confirmed he spoke to a number of Saudi Pro League clubs before signing a new contract with Liverpool. Had he not signed a new contract, his next destination would have been the Middle East.
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and scored 250 goals in 420 games. However, his form has declined this season with 4 goals and 2 assists in 13 Premier League games.
