Fourteen people have died and five remain missing after a landslide in Sichuan province, southwestern China.
The landslide "occurred on a high mountain" at 6 a.m. on June 4th at a forestry station in Kinkouhe County, near Leshan City, Sichuan Province, local authorities said.

"By 3:30 p.m., the bodies of 14 victims had been found, while five people remained missing," the authorities announced.
Authorities have dispatched more than 180 people and dozens of rescue vehicles to the landslide site, located in a mountainous area about 240 kilometers from the provincial capital Chengdu. Situated in a remote and heavily forested region, the area is prone to natural disasters, including landslides and earthquakes.
Weather data shows that Leshan city experienced heavy rainfall for two days prior to the incident.
In 2017, a major landslide occurred in Mao County, Sichuan Province, killing more than 120 people. This was considered the largest landslide in the area since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake that killed 87,000 people.
