Fans are concerned about the structure of BMO Stadium for the 2026 World Cup .
As the home stadium of MLS club Toronto FC and Canadian Football League team Toronto Argonauts, BMO Stadium has undergone a major renovation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Approximately £75 million has been invested in this upgrade project. The most notable addition is the installation of 17,000 temporary seats, bringing the total capacity to 43,036, meeting FIFA standards.

However, instead of receiving praise, many fans questioned whether the structure might inadvertently become a "disaster" for the tournament.
In a video shared on social media platform X, massive and crude scaffolding structures are clearly visible. The additional stands are being directly flooded by rainwater, causing outrage among many, especially given the exorbitant ticket prices for matches held there.
Some people even went down to the base of the structure to test its stability in bad weather. Even so, they admitted that the system seemed quite sturdy.
The Athletic also reported last month that when strong winds appeared, some spectators felt as if the seats in the stadium were shaking.
A fan sitting in the back row of section 228 shared:
"When the wind gets a little stronger, it feels quite unsafe because you can feel the stands shaking."
But apart from the times when it's very windy, everything is generally fine."
BMO Stadium will still be one of the venues for matches at the 2026 World Cup. However, controversies surrounding its facilities, ticket prices, and the spectator experience are turning the Toronto stadium into the focus of attention in a way the organizers certainly did not want.
