According to forecasts from professional agencies, in the second half of April, saline intrusion in Long An province tends to increase, especially in the areas along the Vam Co Tay and Vam Co Dong rivers.

Specifically, the salinity boundary of 4 grams per liter (g/l) - the threshold that can affect daily life and production - is forecast to penetrate more than 63km deep into the fields on the Vam Co Tay River and more than 65km on the Vam Co Dong River. Salinity of 1g/l will penetrate up to 84km and 87km deep on the two rivers, respectively.

Sluice works are operated properly to prevent salinity, store fresh water, and serve production.

Director of Long An Province's Hydrometeorological Station - Nguyen Quang Ngoc informed: "In the middle of April, there will be a high salinity intrusion , higher than the average of many years but lower than 2024. In the dry season this year, this is the peak of the salinity intrusion, according to the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the salinity is from 0.4 - 0.6 parts per thousand".

Faced with the above situation, the authorities recommend that people in risk areas proactively store fresh water during low tides to serve agricultural production and daily life; at the same time, limit irrigation and drainage during periods of high salinity to minimize the risk of damage. In particular, in areas growing fruit trees with high economic value, people need to regularly check the salinity concentration in the water before use to ensure the safety of crops.

According to the assessment, the level of natural disaster risk due to saltwater intrusion on the river system in Long An in the coming time is likely to be at level 3 , this is a high risk level, and needs to be closely monitored./.
