Comprehensive reform
Implementing the 2018 General Education Program, the Department of Education and Training directed the entire sector to focus on comprehensively reforming teaching methods, with STEM/STEAM education being promoted and effectively utilized. STEM education is strongly promoted not only to develop students' abilities and qualities but also to meet the requirements of training high-quality human resources linked to the development and application of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. A prime example is the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2024-2025 academic year. An Giang had 6 projects participating at the national level, achieving 3 second prizes and 1 fourth prize; the province also had 4 projects participating in the 7th Student Entrepreneurship Ideas Competition (SV-STARTUP), achieving 3 third prizes and 1 consolation prize.
One morning in late December, we had the opportunity to visit Ngo Quyen Junior High School in Rach Gia ward. In the classrooms, teachers and students actively interacted, creating a vibrant learning atmosphere. Dao Anh Duong, a student in class 8/2, shared: “Besides lecturing, the teachers also suggested and guided us in carrying out projects and then presenting them in class. This helped us expand our knowledge, deepen our understanding, and improve our skills in using information technology for learning.”
Ms. Chau Thi Thanh Tuyen, an English teacher at Ngo Quyen Secondary School, said: “Initially, I faced many difficulties in approaching the 2018 General Education Program. To teach effectively, I carefully studied the program, utilized various learning resources, and strived to innovate teaching methods, shifting from knowledge transmission to student-centered teaching, fostering students' active participation, initiative, and creativity. I also promoted the application of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to support lesson planning, contributing to improved teaching quality and helping students learn more effectively,” Ms. Thanh Tuyen shared.
Mr. Luu Hoang Hieu, Principal of Ngo Quyen Junior High School, said that in the 2025-2026 school year, the school will have 19 classes with 848 students. To create favorable conditions for teachers to perform their teaching duties well, at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the school will repair and renovate subject classrooms, practical rooms, and laboratories, and invest in some new equipment and teaching aids. The school's management board regularly observes classes and then organizes workshops on innovative teaching methods according to the 2018 General Education Program for all subjects. The school creates opportunities for all administrators and teachers to participate in training on applying AI to management and teaching. Under the guidance of teachers, students are increasingly proficient in applying digital technology to their learning.

Breakthrough in improving quality
By the end of 2025, all educational indicators are expected to have significantly increased compared to the beginning of the 2020-2025 term. To further improve the quality of education, in 2026, the An Giang Department of Education and Training will implement numerous solutions to achieve breakthrough goals in technology, comprehensively applying AI to teachers' lesson planning and teaching. Simultaneously, it will focus on student assessment and evaluation, as well as the administrative management of education agencies, determined to make the education and training sector a leader in the application of information technology and digital transformation.
According to Mr. Tran Quang Bao, Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Education and Training, for the education and training sector, digital transformation is not only about applying information technology but also about fundamental changes in management methods, teaching models, and pedagogical interaction. AI has emerged as a breakthrough tool, capable of comprehensively changing management, teaching, and assessment activities. “To put the education and training sector at the forefront of digital transformation, the Department of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education have signed a cooperation agreement on digital transformation for the period 2026-2030, with a key focus on coordinating training and developing digital skills for teachers,” Mr. Tran Quang Bao stated.
