Following his summer break, Luka Modric was officially unveiled as an AC Milan player in a press conference at the club's sports center.
At 39 years old (he will turn 40 in a month), Modric remains ambitious and has declared his intention to come to Milan to win.
“ I can’t wait to meet everyone and start training,” Modric said after Milan returned from their pre-season tour.
Modric has been a Milan fan since he was a child: “People can be emotional at any age. Recently, I had a very emotional farewell to Real Madrid – emotions remain at any stage of life.”
I grew up with Italian football, and Milan is my favorite team. The club is very popular in Croatia.
Furthermore, my idol – Zvonimir Boban – used to play here. I've always had a special connection with the Rossoneri.”
The Croatian midfielder praised Milan's standing and set a goal of winning with his new team.
“ We all remember Milan as one of the greatest teams in the world . The team cannot be satisfied with a mediocre season or simply qualifying for the Champions League.”
Regarding my vision for Milan, we also need to be humble: we have to work hard to bring the team back to the top. I am a very competitive person; I want to instill that in the whole team.
The minimum goal is to qualify for the Champions League, but Milan must fight for titles – that's my goal, and it should be the goal of everyone working at Milan.
However, we need to remain humble and build a strong team.”
When asked why he chose Milan, Modric confided: "I spent 13 years at the biggest club in the world, and now I'm going to a team that was once the Real Madrid of years past."
Milan lost that at some point along the way. The club needs to work hard to get back to that level. My part is to try my best this year and enjoy this time.”
