The prestige of Italian football has been significantly damaged recently. Inter's unexpected elimination by Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League play-off last week was followed by Juventus's knockout by Galatasaray, despite a commendable effort in the second leg. Although this may not be the best time to be an Italian football fan, watching a Milan vs. Inter match at the legendary San Siro stadium always brings a sense of excitement.

That meant they moved up to second place in Serie A, one point ahead of the Nerazzurri and just two points behind leaders Roma. Milan's home form is also a major issue. They have only won 1 of their last 4 matches at San Siro, and even lost 0-1 to Parma in their most recent game. Conversely, Inter are on an 8-match winning streak in Serie A. The bitter defeat in the Champions League has made the Nerazzurri even more determined in the domestic league.

Inter were the top scorers – with 21 more goals than Milan – and they also scored the most goals from set pieces: a total of 21 goals from set pieces, including 15 from corners, the highest in the league. Meanwhile, Milan conceded half of their goals from set pieces, including 25% from corners.

While Milan must win at all costs, Inter will approach the game with a much more relaxed mindset. This could make a big difference, especially given Inter's superior form.
