FIFA has just announced the official list of 1,248 players from 48 national teams participating in the 2026 World Cup, marking the largest World Cup in the history of world football.
The highlight of this year's list is the inclusion of world football legends such as Lionel Messi (Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), and Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico). This trio together set an unprecedented milestone by becoming the first players in history to participate in six World Cups.
At the football festival held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, 1,248 players will compete in 104 matches. Of these, 357 players have participated in at least one World Cup before, while 891 will be experiencing the atmosphere of the biggest football event on the planet for the first time.
The 2026 World Cup also features a stark contrast in age. Scotland's veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon is the oldest player in the tournament at 43 years and 162 days old. Conversely, Mexico's talented Gilberto Morata, at just 17 years and 240 days old, is the youngest player to participate.

Furthermore, this year's squad list also reflects a strong generational shift, with 22 players under 20 years old and 7 players aged 40 and over present on the world's biggest football stage.
The personnel picture for the 2026 World Cup also reflects the profound globalization of modern football. According to FIFA statistics, the 1,248 participating players currently play for 449 clubs in 71 different countries and territories.
Notably, this year's finals will welcome four teams making their first-ever appearance: Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan.
According to FIFA regulations, national teams are only allowed to change their squad lists in cases of serious injury or illness. Any adjustments must be completed at least 24 hours before the team's first match and require FIFA approval.
