First appearing on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, Dynamic Island generated a lot of attention before it was implemented on the entire iPhone 15 line last year. However, many expressed disappointment, making the failure of this design more and more obvious.
Dynamic Island is losing its appeal due to many problems.
The back of the apps
While it’s a great idea, Dynamic Island isn’t supported by most third-party apps, especially in the US. Sure, a few apps from “friends of Apple” developers have jumped on the bandwagon, but most developers have backed away.
Many people thought that great apps like WhatsApp, Facebook… that are used every day would contribute to this trend to make it easier for people to navigate, but in the end, that is not the case. The rejection of these apps for Dynamic Island is showing a failure that is becoming more and more evident after it has been deployed for 1.5 years.
Doesn't always work well
Dynamic Island’s failure wasn’t simply because the apps didn’t keep up with Apple’s new trends, but because the company itself had to be self-critical. Many users who used this feature encountered at least one problem, such as not being able to update properly in the background or, most commonly, an error when two activities were happening simultaneously on Dynamic Island.
The appeal of Apple's innovations is no longer what it used to be.
The latter error is common and especially occurs with third-party apps. For example, it happens to users when they post the results of a football match on Dynamic Island and simultaneously set a timer or listen to music. One thing to note is that this is something that does not happen with Apple's native apps, leading many to believe that this problem will not be difficult to solve.
Poor vision
Dynamic Island was so surprising when it was first released that many thought it would be the future instead of the notch, but that hype quickly died down right when the iPhone 14 Pro hit the streets and saw the light of day.
While it’s a very well-crafted element, the line between hardware and software is clearly evident when the sun shines on Dynamic Island, which makes the experience less pleasant than when the sun isn’t shining on it. It’s clear that Apple needs to address this issue for future iPhone models if it wants to keep it going.
