First appearing on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, Dynamic Island generated considerable attention before its rollout across the entire iPhone 15 lineup last year. However, numerous expressions of disappointment have made the failure of this design increasingly apparent.
Dynamic Island is losing its appeal due to a number of problems.
The abandonment of applications
Although it's a great idea, Dynamic Island isn't supported by most third-party apps, especially in the US. While some apps from developers considered "Apple friends" have jumped in, most developers have turned their backs on it.
Many people thought that great apps like WhatsApp and Facebook, used daily, would contribute to this trend by making navigation easier for everyone, but ultimately, that wasn't the case. The rejection of these apps by Dynamic Island is showing an increasingly evident failure after its deployment for 1.5 years.
It doesn't always work well.
Dynamic Island's failure wasn't simply due to the apps not keeping up with Apple's new trends, but also because the company itself needed to be self-critical. Many users encountered problems with this feature at least once, for example, failing to update properly in the background, or most commonly, errors occurring when two activities were running simultaneously on Dynamic Island.
The appeal of Apple's innovations is no longer what it used to be.
The following bug is common and particularly prevalent with third-party applications. For example, it occurs when users post the results of a soccer match to Dynamic Island and simultaneously set a timer or listen to music. It's worth noting that this doesn't happen with Apple's native applications, leading many to believe it's not difficult to resolve.
Poor visibility
When it first launched, Dynamic Island was so surprising that many thought it would be the future, replacing the notch. However, this hype was quickly dampened the moment the iPhone 14 Pro was brought out into the open and exposed to the sun.
Although a very well-refined element, the boundary between hardware and software is clearly visible when sunlight shines on Dynamic Island. This results in a less pleasant experience compared to when the sun isn't shining. Clearly, Apple needs to address this issue for future iPhone models if it wants to maintain its functionality.
