Highlights Newcastle 2-1 MU: In the early hours of March 5th, Newcastle, despite playing with ten men, showed their mettle to defeat Manchester United in the 29th round of the Premier League.

The turning point came just before halftime when Newcastle's Jacob Ramsey received a red card. With a man advantage throughout the second half and the score tied 1-1, all the conditions seemed perfect for a Manchester United comeback. But the opposite happened.

The first problem lies in their ability to capitalize on their advantage. MU dominated possession, generating an xG of 1.28 in the second half, but that dominance remained just a statistic. They lacked creativity in tight spaces, speed in the final touches, and especially, sharpness in front of goal. They held possession for much of the game but lacked the creativity to break through the opponent's compact defense.

This was compounded by a lack of clinical finishing from the attack. Bryan Mbeumo missed a golden opportunity at the end of the first half. After the break, Leny Yoro's close-range header was saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes, and Benjamin Sesko all tried their luck but failed. When opportunities weren't converted into goals, MU paid a heavy price.

Carrick was helpless at St James' Park.

The defense continued to make mistakes. Fernandes committed a foul leading to a penalty that opened the scoring. Then, in the 90th minute, the defensive system with Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia allowed William Osula to get past them and score the winning goal. Notably, MU has conceded the most goals from players coming off the bench in the Premier League this season (9 goals).

Ultimately, Newcastle's resilience must be acknowledged. Despite playing with ten men, they defended disciplined, Ramsdale was outstanding in goal, and they waited for their moment. Osula seized that opportunity, while MU did not. And the price was a collapse at the very moment they needed that resilience the most.

MU still temporarily holds third place, but has missed the opportunity to pull ahead and is now forced to look back more often than dream of closing the gap with the leading group. Nevertheless, this defeat is necessary for MU to wake up from their dream and focus more on the rest of the season.

What happened to the Manchester United squad that last won the Premier League? It's been over 10 years since the "Red Devils" last lifted the Premier League trophy.
