According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), U.S. fighter jets struck multiple targets in Iran on June 26, including missile launch sites, drone storage facilities, and radar stations. Washington said this was in response to a drone attack on the Singapore -flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely as it transited the Strait of Hormuz the previous day.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, CENTCOM accused Iranian forces of violating the ceasefire agreement by targeting a commercial shipping vessel. "The unprovoked aggression against a commercial shipping vessel by Iranian forces clearly violates the ceasefire agreement," CENTCOM stated.
On the Iranian side, state media reported multiple explosions on Sirik Island, in Hormozgan province in southern Iran. State television station IRIB, citing sources, said two flying objects struck a telecommunications tower near the area.
Iranian media outlets also quoted a military source as saying that Iranian forces had previously fired warning shots at ships that Tehran considered to be "violating" regulations in the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran has not confirmed carrying out the drone attack on the Ever Lovely.
Before the airstrikes took place, US President Donald Trump publicly blamed Iran for the incident in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a "stupid violation" of the recently reached peace agreement.
Despite denying direct responsibility, Tehran maintains that Iran and Oman are the only two countries with the right to decide the future of maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important energy shipping route.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi emphasized that ensuring maritime security in the Hormuz region cannot be achieved through vague agreements or decisions that disregard Iran's role as a coastal state.
The latest developments have made the prospects for maintaining peace between the US and Iran even more fragile. The timing of the incident is also particularly sensitive, as the two countries are still discussing the implementation of a previously signed memorandum.
According to published information, Washington and Tehran still have many disagreements on how to interpret the agreement, particularly regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, the future of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, and Israel's military campaign in Lebanon.
