MU 'strike gold' at Tottenham's stadium

There's a strange mystery in the Premier League: Tottenham's home ground is considered a 'gold mine' for visiting teams to exploit.

THE HOME GARDEN NIGHTMARE

The last time Tottenham faced Manchester United was a match that decided the entire season for both sides. Fortunately for Tottenham, that 2025 Europa League final was played at a neutral venue in Bilbao. Tottenham won 1-0, securing their place in this season's Champions League. Manchester United have a chance for revenge in the early match of round 11, when they visit Tottenham's stadium (7:30 PM today, November 8th).

If ranked by away record, Tottenham would be leading the Premier League this season (4 wins, 1 draw, including a win at Man. City). However, in terms of home record, Tottenham would only be 17th (1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses). This situation actually existed before the 2025-2026 season began. Since the start of 2025, no team in the Premier League has lost more home games than Tottenham. Tottenham has 4 more home games to play. Just one more loss would see them achieve an unwanted record: most home losses in a single calendar year.

Despite being in 8th place, MU are level on points with both Tottenham and Chelsea above them, and only one point behind 3rd-placed Liverpool. Besides MU, only one other team is unbeaten in their last four matches: league leaders Arsenal. This means MU have a slight edge in terms of form, even though they only drew with Nottingham Forest in the previous round. In that game, Tottenham lost 0-1 to Chelsea at home, and it was a match where Tottenham's attack was considered its weakest ever (only 3 shots, with a total xG of 0.1, meaning a 10% chance of scoring – the lowest since Opta introduced the xG metric).

S UNDERLAND CHALLENGES A RSENA

Round 11 was very evenly matched, with 6 out of 10 games taking place between teams tied on points or close together in the standings. The Sunderland - Arsenal match was slightly different: Sunderland were three places below the league leaders. Nevertheless, a top-four finish after 10 rounds would be a dream achievement for Sunderland. They would temporarily take second place if they beat Arsenal tonight (00:30 on November 9th).

Arsenal are currently on an eight-game winning streak with no goals conceded across all competitions. No other team in the English Premier League has achieved this in the last 105 years. On average, Arsenal have only faced 1.9 shots on target per game this season. And they have only conceded 3 goals in 16 matches.

However, Arsenal also have a weakness: their ability to score from open play isn't high. They specialize in exploiting opportunities from set pieces. And Sunderland this season are considered "masters" of defending against set pieces. The league leaders will find it very difficult to win at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland are currently unbeaten this season. In other words, it's very possible that newly promoted Sunderland will be the team to end Arsenal's success, at least in some aspect: scoring goals or taking points. And who knows, Sunderland might pull off a big surprise! Shining in the Sunderland squad this season is veteran Granit Xhaka - a former Arsenal player.

Everton - Fulham, West Ham - Burnley, and Chelsea - Wolverhampton are the remaining matches tonight and early tomorrow morning.
