Although he was highly educated and knowledgeable, Tran Hong Chuong (residing in Bac Ha ward, Ha Tinh city) still succumbed to the magic of money and ended up in a spiral of prison.
Defendant Tran Hong Chuong.
Growing up in a poor family, since childhood, Tran Hong Chuong (born in 1972, residing in Bac Ha ward, Ha Tinh city) was famous for being an intelligent and bright boy. After finishing high school, Chuong passed the entrance exam to major in economics at Hanoi University. To have money to pursue his dream of going to university, the poor student did many jobs to make ends meet, from tutoring to heavy manual work such as construction worker, porter...
Graduating from university with a first-class degree, Chuong went to Ho Chi Minh City to find a career. Surpassing nearly 1,000 candidates after many rounds of exams, the newly graduated student was excellently admitted to the Information - Trade Center ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), Ho Chi Minh City Branch. With such admirable achievements, Chuong became the pride of his family and clan.
Overview of the trial.
At the peak of his career, an acquaintance in Ha Tinh suddenly contacted Chuong. This man asked Chuong to introduce some workers to European countries to work illegally. Instead of denouncing the illegality of the network, Chuong agreed to go down the path of crime because of the great power of money. Just like that, Chuong plunged into the spiral of illegal business, not thinking of stopping.
However, "if you go out at night too much, you will meet a ghost one day", everything fell apart, and Chuong bitterly realized that he had slipped down the path of crime. After all his efforts and struggles, just because of greed, in the end, all Chuong received was "bitter fruit".
With two charges of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" and "Organizing and forcing others to illegally flee abroad", Chuong was sentenced by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) to a total of 24 years in prison.
The prosecutor questioned the defendant.
After entering the prison, Chuong was entrusted by the Board of Directors to take on the role of leader of the art troupe, building movements to serve propaganda work. Each song and play composed by Chuong is his heartfelt sentiment, a repentance and enlightenment for past sins. A series of works composed by Chuong were evaluated by the Board of Directors and fellow prisoners as highly educational, awakening the seeds of goodness and leaving many valuable lessons.
Chuong once dreamed that after being released from prison, he would truly live a useful life and consider it a way to show gratitude to those who helped him get up after falling. However, after only 5 years of returning to normal life, Chuong forgot that promise...
The People's Jury clarifies the roles of those with related rights and obligations.
Being an intelligent and timely person, during the land fever in Ha Tinh, Chuong quickly grasped the needs of the market, regularly researched areas that could "make money" and then introduced them to customers. To meet work requirements and need a car to travel for real estate brokerage activities, on February 26, 2022, Chuong went to the store of Mr. DVQ (born in 1979, Ba Giang village, Viet Tien commune, Thach Ha) to sign a contract to rent a Kia Morning car with a rental price of 10 million VND/month.
However, just over a week later, due to needing money for personal expenses, on March 2, 2022, Chuong mortgaged the rented car to Mr. PNP (born in 1986, residing in Thai Hoa town, Nghe An) for 110 million VND.
At the first instance trial held by the People's Court of Thach Ha district, Tran Hong Chuong stated that of the 110 million VND he got from mortgaging the car, Chuong paid Mr. Q. an additional 26 million VND, enough for the first 3 months of car rental, and used the rest for personal expenses, debt repayment, and deposits on "pre-owned" land.
As a highly educated, knowledgeable person and above all, having served a long sentence, Tran Hong Chuong was very aware of his own actions. However, due to his lack of courage, Chuong succumbed to the magic of money and once again, the defendant fell into the spiral of prison.
Speaking his final words before the jury deliberated, Tran Hong Chuong pondered a lot about his path to rehabilitation. The defendant knew that no matter how determined or how hard he tried, if he lacked courage and a good heart, rehabilitation for people like Chuong would still be a long way off. For the act of "Abusing trust to appropriate property", the People's Court of Thach Ha district sentenced Tran Hong Chuong to 6 years in prison.
