A warm home in a highland village.

Throughout the villages and hamlets of the northern communes of Thai Nguyen province, hundreds of new houses have sprung up, replacing dilapidated temporary shelters. This is clear evidence of the efforts of the government, the community, and the people in organizing and implementing the project. These new houses bring hope, safety, and motivation to improve their lives, contributing to changing the face of the highlands and the lives of the people.

A life of peace and stability.

In his newly completed house, Mr. Ca Van Phong happily shared: "Before, my family lived in a wooden house with a corrugated fiber cement roof that was full of holes and rotting wooden walls. Every rainy season, water leaked everywhere; just a strong gust of wind would send water splashing in. Many nights, the whole family had to huddle in a corner to avoid the leaks."

Thanks to the attention and support of 60 million VND from the Party and the State, plus additional loans, the family built a house of nearly 100m², including four bedrooms, with a corrugated iron roof, totaling over 300 million VND. Now, Mr. Phong and his family have a safe and secure place to live, and are motivated to plant more fruit trees, raise pigs and chickens, aiming to escape poverty and improve their living standards.

Just a few hundred meters from Mr. Phong's house, Mr. Quan Van Quynh's house is in its final stages of completion. With great enthusiasm, Mr. Quynh shared: "When the commune announced that my family would receive financial assistance for building a house, I proactively dismantled the old wooden house. It was just my mother and me, but people from the village and commune came to help with the dismantling, digging the foundation, and transporting materials."

After two months of construction, the sturdy house was basically complete, with gleaming tiled floors. Thanks to the support of the Party and the State, plus additional loans, the family built a house worth over 100 million dong. Now, rain and wind are no longer a worry as before.

The story of Mr. Phong and Mr. Quynh is just one of hundreds of joyful moments unfolding in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen , where the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is spreading strongly.

In Nghiên Loan commune, one of the communes with a large number of houses needing demolition (292), 165 have been completed so far. In Bằng Thành commune, with 327 houses, 212 have been completed; the remaining houses are over 50% complete. In Thượng Minh commune, out of a total of 284 houses, 197 have been completed; the remaining 87 started construction in July and are taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, mobilizing maximum manpower and machinery to complete on schedule. In Cao Minh commune, with 450 houses to be demolished, 365 have been completed; the remaining houses started construction in mid-July 2025 and efforts are being concentrated to complete them.

From the beginning of July 2025, the communes and wards in the northern part of the province established and strengthened commune-level steering committees, assigning members to be in charge of each household, directly going to the grassroots level to disseminate information, mobilize support, and guide procedures for building and repairing houses. Many communes have reviewed and adjusted the list of households receiving support to ensure that the correct beneficiaries are included, without omission, and to promptly add any newly added households.

The community joins hands to eliminate temporary housing.

Following the directives of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, the northern communes, especially the highland areas such as Bang Thanh, Cao Minh, and Nghien Loan, have decisively implemented many solutions, mobilizing the participation of the entire political system, community, and people. The program not only improves living conditions but also creates motivation for people to rise up and escape poverty sustainably.

Mr. Duong Van Quynh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghien Loan commune, shared: Nghien Loan has a rugged mountainous terrain, with many households living in remote areas, making the transportation of materials difficult, especially during the rainy season. Supplies such as bricks and sand are scarce, and fluctuating prices increase costs. In addition, the customs and traditions of ethnic minorities cause some households to delay the start of construction in order to choose an auspicious date.

To overcome these challenges, the commune mobilized militia forces, youth union members, women's association members, and commune officials to participate in transporting materials, leveling the ground, and providing labor support to the people. Many households also received additional material assistance from the community. The Steering Committee regularly inspected and monitored progress and promptly resolved any obstacles.

Building a new house in the highlands is no easy task. During the rainy season, the dirt roads become slippery, and vehicles carrying materials often have to stop halfway up the slope. People have to carry each bag of cement and each brick on their own. In some places, reaching a house requires crossing rivers or streams, and materials can only be transported after the water recedes. Furthermore, scarce supplies and rising prices drive up the costs for the residents.

Despite the difficulties, thanks to the assistance of soldiers, police, militia, youth union members, and women's associations, most households have now had their problems resolved and are continuing the process of building new houses.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen has become a widespread movement, fostering community cohesion. People contribute labor, resources, and transportation... all working towards the goal of completing new houses as quickly as possible.

With the determination of the government, the unity of the people, and timely support resources, the figures in the report not only remained statistics but also transformed into hundreds of homes and hundreds of radiant smiles. The completion of these new houses has contributed to changing the face of rural highlands, improving people's lives, and successfully achieving the goals of sustainable poverty reduction and new rural development.
