Sitting in their brand-new house, still smelling of fresh paint, Mr. and Mrs. Le Thanh Mam, residents of An Khuong hamlet, Long Kien commune, shared that their old house, built of eucalyptus wood more than 20 years ago, had seriously deteriorated, with rotting pillars and beams, but the family couldn't afford repairs. "Thanks to the concern of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and the support of An Giang Lottery Construction Company Limited, my family now has a spacious and sturdy new house. This is a priceless gift that helps us realize our dream of having a stable home," Mr. Mam expressed.
Mr. Mẫm's family faced a difficult life. He and his wife earned a meager living by scavenging for potatoes every day. When they heard he was eligible for housing assistance, neighbors and relatives contributed 5 million dong and 10 million dong respectively. Along with the 60 million dong in support from the business, Mr. Mẫm's family was able to build a house costing over 100 million dong. From now on, they no longer live in constant fear whenever storms approach and have renewed motivation to improve their lives.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, residing in My Thanh hamlet, Long Kien commune, also faces difficult circumstances. Without land for farming, the family's main source of income depends on her daughter, who works as a factory worker in Ho Chi Minh City. Her meager salary not only supports her elderly parents but also provides for three children of school age. “Our old house is infested with termites and leaks everywhere. Every time it rains heavily, the whole family just prays that the house won't collapse. Building a new house is almost unthinkable for our family. So when I received the financial assistance, I was so happy I cried,” Ms. Thu recounted emotionally.
Many families still struggle in dilapidated houses, lacking basic necessities. A sturdy roof over their heads not only provides shelter from the sun and rain but also serves as a foundation for them to work with peace of mind, nurturing faith and hope for the future. Understanding this, An Giang Lottery Company Limited has donated 600 million VND to build 10 solidarity houses for poor and disadvantaged households in Long Kien commune. Each house built is a testament to human kindness and the partnership between the enterprise, the government, and the community in caring for the lives of the people.
Mr. Bui Van Thum, residing in My Long hamlet, Long Kien commune, is still overjoyed when talking about his new house. “I feel like I’m dreaming. The old house, built with eucalyptus wood over 20 years ago, was very dilapidated. Every time it rained or was windy, the whole family was afraid it would collapse. Thanks to the financial support from the local authorities and neighbors, my family now has a decent place to live,” Mr. Thum shared.
For the past four years, Mr. Thum has been battling the aftereffects of a stroke. His wife grows coriander, sweet potato leaves, and mint in the backyard and sells them at the market to make ends meet. Their children are also not well-off. Therefore, the new house is not only a place to live but also a great source of encouragement for the family to continue striving to overcome difficulties.
Over the years, the care for poor and disadvantaged households has always received the attention of the whole society. Among these, the program to build solidarity houses has become a meaningful activity, contributing to helping many families stabilize their lives and have better conditions for economic development. Trinh Bao Chau, Deputy Director of An Giang Lottery Company Limited, said: “The company always pays attention to implementing social welfare programs. Supporting the construction of solidarity houses is one of the activities with profound humanitarian significance, with the desire to help disadvantaged families realize their dream of having a stable home and gradually improve their quality of life.”
According to Ngo Huu Le, Deputy Secretary of the Long Kien Commune Party Committee, these solidarity houses are not only valuable material gifts but also vivid symbols of solidarity and mutual support within the community. The project contributes to the effective implementation of the Party's guidelines and the State's social welfare policies, while affirming the pivotal role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in caring for the poor and vulnerable groups.
