Man City and their League Cup record.

Two goals in four minutes from 21-year-old midfielder Nico O'Reilly helped Man City beat Arsenal 2-0, setting a new record in the League Cup.

Despite being considered the underdogs against Arsenal before the final, Man City quickly demonstrated that all predictions were merely speculative. Their desire for victory and eagerness to dominate the game caused Arsenal to lose the necessary composure against a Man City side far more experienced in big matches.

Arsenal created clear chances and could have easily taken an early lead, but their wasteful finishing cost them dearly, a familiar scenario in top-level football. While stars like Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, and Antoine Semenyo weren't remembered in history, young midfielder Nico O'Reilly bore the brunt of it all.

Just one day after turning 21, Nico O'Reilly etched his name into the golden pages of the League Cup. The youngster delivered a sensational performance, scoring both goals within four minutes with deadly headers, becoming the first player to score a brace in a League Cup final since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2018.

O'Reilly's remarkable maturity was demonstrated through his intelligent positioning and composure in the penalty area. He had two touches in the box, both of which resulted in goals, achieving a 100% conversion rate that astonished his senior teammates.

While Nico O'Reilly shone brightly in attack, the goalkeeper position became the deciding factor in the match. While James Trafford, Man City's "substitute," made numerous saves, Kepa Arrizabalaga played the villain for Arsenal. His failure to hold onto Rayan Cherki's cross in the 60th minute directly gifted O'Reilly the opening goal, followed by a moment of helplessness as O'Reilly scored an own goal just four minutes later.

Arsenal controlled possession for less than 40%, their lowest of the season, a stark contrast to their current Premier League-leading form. This shows that Man City completely dominated the game after the break and secured the victory with ease. Even Pep Guardiola acknowledged his team's "unbelievable win," especially considering Man City's overwhelming dominance against one of Europe's strongest teams.

Arsenal have once again missed out on the League Cup after more than 40 years and haven't won a trophy in the last six years, despite being considered a quadruple contender this season. Meanwhile, Manchester City have won the League Cup nine times in 14 years, making Guardiola the most successful manager in the competition's history with five titles.

The League Cup, which holds little significance for most of England's big clubs, has helped salvage a potentially trophyless season for Man City and is seen as a stepping stone for the future, as many young "Citizens" players experience a final for the first time and learn how to win a title.
