Bringing livelihood to the poor

Instead of supporting with money or gifts, Ms. Tran Thi My (residing in Long Hung 2 village, Binh Tan commune, Dong Nai province) chose to "give fishing rods" to provide livelihoods, helping poor families overcome difficulties and build a stable life. Her meaningful work is contributing to changing the lives of people in Binh Tan commune.

Ms. Tran Thi My, born in 1984, is from Thai Binh province (old). When she was a child, she followed her family to the new economic zone in Long Hung commune, Phu Rieng district, Binh Phuoc province (old), now Binh Tan commune, Dong Nai province. As a child, she had to work for hire in many different jobs. When she grew up and got married, after many years of hard work, in 2014, she started a business selling cashew nuts.

With her industrious and hard-working nature, Ms. My has built a business of up to 40 tons of cashew nuts/week and created jobs for 10-15 workers with a stable salary of 13-15 million VND/month. Not only that, she also created benefits for workers, such as Tet bonuses and other bonuses of up to 25-30 million VND/worker. From this success, Ms. Tran Thi My has been recognized as a member of the provincial-level excellent farmer and business association in 2024.

What is valuable about her is not only her success in business, but also her open heart, always ready to help those around her. In 2024, she donated 150 million VND to buy equipment for Long Hung Kindergarten in the Advanced New Rural Development Program. From 2020-2024, she supported about 200 gifts for families in difficult circumstances with a total value of up to 320 million VND. She also supports children with serious illnesses, such as the case of 3 children with cancer at Long Hung Secondary School with a support amount of 9 million VND in October 2023. Not only helping the community, she also sponsors 4 orphans and 1 elderly woman in especially difficult circumstances, supporting 500,000 VND per month. In addition, she and the local government implemented the Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in the area by supporting the locality to build charity houses for the people...

Responding to the call of the local government of Long Hung commune (old), over the past 2 years, Ms. Tran Thi My has donated 20 breeding cows to poor households in the commune. Thanks to the “fishing rod” in hand, many families have risen up and stabilized their lives.

“When I can do something for them, I will do it, because I know that a little help can change their lives. I believe that giving is forever, so let's do more charity work when we can…” - Ms. Tran Thi My shared.

“I think that giving them a cow means giving them a “fishing rod” that suits their health and conditions, hoping that they will not sell it but multiply the herd to make money . I hope this model will develop more and more to help people reduce their difficulties in life,” said Ms. My.
