Providing livelihoods for the poor.

Instead of providing financial assistance or gifts, Ms. Tran Thi My (residing in Long Hung 2 village, Binh Tan commune, Dong Nai province) chose to "give them a fishing rod," providing them with a means of livelihood and helping poor families overcome difficulties and build stable lives. Her meaningful actions are contributing to changing the lives of people in Binh Tan commune.

Ms. Tran Thi My, born in 1984, is from the former Thai Binh province. As a child, she moved with her family to Long Hung commune, Phu Rieng district, Binh Phuoc province (formerly), now Binh Tan commune, Dong Nai province, as part of a new economic zone . She endured hardship in her youth, working various odd jobs. After getting married and struggling for many years, in 2014 she started her own business selling cashew nuts.

With her diligent and hardworking nature, Ms. My has built a business that produces 40 tons of cashew nuts per week, creating jobs for 10-15 workers with stable salaries of 13-15 million VND per month. Furthermore, she provides benefits for her workers, such as Tet bonuses and other bonuses totaling 25-30 million VND per worker. Based on this success, Ms. Tran Thi My was recognized as an outstanding farmer in production and business at the provincial level in 2024.

What is admirable about her is not only her business success, but also her generous heart and willingness to help those around her. In 2024, she donated 150 million VND to purchase equipment for Long Hung Kindergarten as part of the Advanced New Rural Development Program. From 2020 to 2024, she provided approximately 200 gifts to disadvantaged families, totaling 320 million VND. She also supported children with serious illnesses, such as three children with cancer at Long Hung Secondary School, providing 9 million VND in support in October 2023. Beyond helping the community, she also sponsors four orphans and an elderly woman in extremely difficult circumstances, providing them with 500,000 VND each month. Furthermore, she collaborated with the local government to implement the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area by supporting the construction of charitable houses for residents…

Responding to the call of the local government of Long Hung commune (formerly), over the past two years, Ms. Tran Thi My has donated 20 breeding cows to disadvantaged families in the commune. Thanks to having this "means of livelihood" in hand, many families have been able to improve their lives and achieve stability.

“Whenever I can do something for them, I will, because I know that a little help can change their lives. I believe that giving is forever, so let's do more volunteer work whenever we can…” - shared Ms. Tran Thi My .

"I think that giving them a cow is like giving them a 'fishing rod' that suits their health and circumstances, hoping they won't sell it but will instead expand their herd to improve their economic situation. Hopefully, this model will develop further so that people can alleviate some of the difficulties in their lives," said Ms. My.
