Bringing culture and arts closer to the people.

Many localities in Hai Phong are choosing to organize practical cultural and artistic activities so that people can participate, experience, and create.

The cultural program organized by Nam Dong ward at the beginning of the new year left a positive impression on the people.

It is through these "platforms" close to the people that culture and art are no longer distant but become an everyday need, contributing to improving spiritual life and strengthening community bonds.

Organizing a cultural and artistic "platform"

In Nguyen Luong Bang commune, every Saturday afternoon, members of the Thanh Tung Folk Song and Cheo Club gather to practice. Those with more experience guide those with less; some dance, some sing, and together they discuss and write new lyrics for traditional Cheo melodies… In this way, the members immerse themselves in the clear and pure melodies of Cheo and folk songs…

The club has 30 members who regularly participate in activities and practice sessions, creating a playground for those who share a love for traditional Vietnamese folk opera. “The club was established two years ago. Through practice sessions, everyone shares and guides each other on how to sing, how to use vocal embellishments, how to breathe, and how to guide each dance move. The club is where we can express our love for folk opera, and it's also a place where we can unwind after farm work and household chores; we feel happier and more optimistic,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Them, Head of the Thanh Tung Folk Opera and Folk Song Club.

During local cultural and artistic events, the club serves as the "nucleus" of the artistic programs. From large-scale community events to informal gatherings, the club is invited to participate, creating opportunities for members to perform for the community. "The local authorities provide facilities and cultural institutions to support the development of the commune's cultural and artistic clubs, creating more opportunities for the people. This also helps to spread and enhance the cultural and spiritual life of the local people," said Mr. Doan Van Cat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nguyen Luong Bang commune.

These days, the performing arts groups of Nam Dong ward are also preparing for the performances in the "Nam Dong - Melodies I Love" program for the second quarter, with the theme "A May Gift for Him." "Although the program is organized by the ward, the performances are quite elaborate, from costumes to staging. The entire program is structured into continuous segments, demonstrating professionalism. Each person has a performance, and everyone practices together, so everyone is enthusiastic. The atmosphere is therefore much more lively," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, a member of the performing arts group of Cap Nhat 2 residential area.

Enhance experiences so that culture "becomes" part of life.

Local people take on the ceremonial roles in the festival.

Besides creating a platform for arts and culture, localities also focus on organizing experiential activities to bring culture closer to the people. For example, in festivals associated with the Con Son - Kiet Bac historical site, many activities are designed for people to directly participate, such as ritual performances, rice cake making competitions, and folk games. People don't just stand on the sidelines observing but become an integral part of the festival.

According to Mr. Le Duy Manh, Deputy Head of the Con Son - Kiet Bac Relic Management Board, in addition to focusing on the ceremonial aspects, the festival organizing committee pays more attention to organizing the festive activities in a way that allows people to "participate." By directly participating, they understand and become more attached to traditional cultural values.

One notable aspect is the application of technology in cultural promotion. Museums and historical sites are gradually digitizing data and developing virtual tours, making it easier for people to access information. The Hai Phong Museum has created a diverse exhibition space, connecting the history and culture of the entire region.

Alongside this, community-based art programs, mobile film screenings, and cultural performances in villages and residential areas continue to be maintained. These seemingly simple activities have a powerful ripple effect, bringing culture closer to each family and each individual.

Through practical activities, arts and culture are gradually "permeating" into every residential area.
