Sowing "green shoots" in border areas.
In the border area of Kim Phu and Kim Dien communes, where the terrain is fragmented, transportation is difficult, and the lives of the people are still full of hardships, the mark of the officers and soldiers of Ca Xeng Border Guard Post has been very evident in recent years.
Not only has the unit successfully managed and protected over 34 km of border, but it has also served as a reliable support for the people in economic development and stabilizing their lives.
Based on the practical experience of local farmers, the Ca Xeng Border Guard Post, together with the local government, implemented a rice-corn farming model in the Ruc Lan area. With over 327 man-days of labor, officers and soldiers directly provided hands-on guidance from land preparation and planting to care and harvesting. The model yielded an average of nearly 4.5 tons/ha, a very encouraging figure for people in this border region still facing many difficulties.
Implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, in 2025, the unit supported the repair and construction of 6 houses for particularly disadvantaged families. Mr. Dinh Huu Nga's family in Khai Hoa village, Kim Phu commune, was classified as a poor household with a disabled child, and for many years, they had to live in a dilapidated house. Following the efforts and appeals of the Ca Xeng Border Guard Post, the Quang Binh Lottery Company Limited provided 25 million VND to build a new house for Mr. Nga's family.

"Without the help of the Border Guard and benefactors, my family wouldn't know when we would ever have a sturdy house to live in. This is a motivation for us to feel secure in our work and take care of our children," Mr. Nga happily shared.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Duong Dinh Hoan, Political Officer of the Ca Xeng Border Guard Post, social welfare work is always a priority for the unit, implemented through practical programs such as "Zero-Cost Market," "Border Guard Spring - Warming the Hearts of the Villagers," and "Mid-Autumn Festival Night"... The budget for organizing these activities in 2025 alone is over 1 billion VND. In addition, the unit is currently fostering and supporting 46 children under the "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by Border Guard Posts" program and the "Army Officers and Soldiers Helping Children Go to School" project for the period 2021-2030. Simultaneously, 20 Party members are assigned to oversee 104 households to provide support and contribute to changing perceptions and achieving sustainable poverty reduction for the people.
With the spirit of "The outpost is our home, the border is our homeland," officers and soldiers of the Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Post actively join hands with local authorities to build many sustainable livelihood models for the people. According to the Deputy Political Officer of the Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Post, Major Le Thua Van, through the "Cattle Breeding Program for the Poor in Border Areas," after more than a year of implementation, the initial two breeding cows donated to two households in Ka Tup village, Lao Bao commune, have now grown to eight healthy cows.
In addition, the unit has effectively maintained the "Border Lesson" model from 2018 to the present, attracting more than 11,900 teachers and students to participate; and continues to support 17 students in the "Helping Children Go to School" program and the "Military Officers and Soldiers Helping Children Go to School" project, contributing to fulfilling the dreams of students in border areas.
The people are prosperous, and the border is secure.
The desire to bring the vibrant green and golden hues of prosperity to the people in the border areas is not only the goal of the officers and soldiers of Ca Xeng Border Guard Post and Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Post, but also a "command" from the hearts of the soldiers in green uniforms belonging to the Quang Tri Border Guard Force.

Besides playing a core role in managing and protecting national border sovereignty and security, the Quang Tri Border Guard Command always considers the task of accompanying and supporting the people in socio-economic development and poverty reduction as a regular and long-term requirement. Based on practical surveys in each locality, the Party Committee and the Command of the Provincial Border Guard have issued many resolutions, policies, and specific solutions; directing units to implement models in a pilot format, drawing lessons learned, and only replicating effective models on a larger scale. Despite many difficulties, with the sense of responsibility and affection of the soldiers of Uncle Ho, many good models and creative approaches have proven effective, contributing to strengthening the economy, culture, society, and political system at the grassroots level.
Notably, over the past five years, 113 projects under the "Light for Border Regions" model have been implemented; the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has supported the construction and repair of over 450 homes; and four rice cultivation models covering 22.5 hectares have helped ethnic minority communities achieve sustainable livelihoods. Programs such as "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by Border Guard Posts" and "Army Officers and Soldiers Helping Children Go to School" have sponsored nearly 600 students, many of whom have gone on to become successful and attend universities and colleges. In addition, many practical models such as "Border Region Water Wells," "Remote Village Broadcasting," "Border Region Machinery," "Goat Breeding for Startups," and Military-Civilian Medical Stations have been effectively maintained, creating a widespread impact.
The Quang Tri Border Guard Command is tasked with managing nearly 410km of land border and over 190km of coastline, encompassing 36 communes, wards, and border special zones. The population in the border region mainly consists of ethnic minorities such as the Pa Ko, Bru-Van Kieu, and Chut, who face difficult economic conditions.
According to Colonel Ngo Van Dung, Deputy Political Commissar of the Quang Tri Border Guard Command, in order to firmly protect border sovereignty and security, the Border Guard force must closely cooperate with other forces and promote the strength of national unity. Therefore, supporting the people in socio-economic development is identified as a continuous political task of the border guard force.
"In the coming time, the Quang Tri Border Guard will continue to innovate and improve the quality of mass mobilization work, implementing the '3 close ties, 4 together' approach to promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people. The unit will focus on promoting propaganda, mobilization, and guidance for people to develop the economy, strengthen their trust in the Party, the government, and the armed forces, and not listen to the distorted rhetoric of hostile forces, contributing to maintaining stability in the border area," Mr. Dung said.
