With total prize money reaching 200,000 Canadian dollars, the competition calls on startups, organizations, and individuals to contribute solutions for strengthening long-term financial foundations, promoting comprehensive healthcare, and improving quality of life across different stages of life in the Asian region.
According to forecasts, by 2050, one in four Asians will be over 60 years old. This major demographic shift stems from increasing life expectancy and declining birth rates. As countries in the region adapt to these changes, the traditional "school - work - retirement" life model will no longer be suitable. Instead, they will flexibly transition between stages of learning, working, caring for family and themselves, and enjoying life.
The “Innovation for the Future of Asian Population” competition, launched by Manulife Global in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, aims to achieve the following main goals: finding solutions to help people build more effective financial plans as life expectancy increases; increasing access to healthcare services, helping people maintain physical and mental health as they age; and optimizing personal and professional potential for everyone at all stages of life through skills development and community connection.
Sarah Chapman, Global Head of Sustainable Development at Manulife, shared: “ To ensure people have a high quality of life in the long term, we need to change traditional perspectives on saving, insurance, healthcare, and participation in the workforce . This competition is an opportunity to invest in truly innovative solutions that address demographic trends shaping Asia’s future , contributing to improved health, finances, and quality of life for future generations. ”
The competition is being held on UpLink – an open platform of the World Economic Forum – and is accepting applications from now until April 28, 2025. The organizers will select 10 outstanding initiatives for the final round, of which the three best initiatives will receive a total prize of 200,000 Canadian dollars from Manulife. In addition, winning individuals and organizations will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive networking events, collaborate with potential partners, and receive funding to implement their ideas.
