Matcha Milk - A New Product Spreading the Brand's Value

Leveraging the advantages of high-quality tea growing in the Moc Chau plateau, Matcha Milk from Co Do Moc Chau Tea Joint Stock Company, Thao Nguyen ward, has been recognized as a typical rural industrial product of Son La province in 2025. The product features a unique flavor and is processed quickly and efficiently.

The Provincial Council for the Selection of Typical Industrial and Handicraft Products awarded the Certificate of Typical Industrial and Handicraft Product to Moc Chau Red Flag Tea Joint Stock Company.

Moc Chau Red Flag Tea Joint Stock Company is one of the tea processing units in Son La, offering specialty teas, tea bags, green tea powder, green tea essential oil, and tea-derived products. Responding to beverage trends, in 2024, the company developed a range of ready-to-drink tea products, including: Black Tea with Milk, Oolong Tea with Milk, Matcha with Milk, and Jasmine Green Tea with Milk.

Mr. Tran Manh Hoa, Deputy General Director of the company, shared: Matcha milk is developed from tea leaves grown using a shade-providing method for 20 days before harvest. This technique helps increase chlorophyll content, reduce bitterness, and enhance the characteristic umami flavor. Tea buds are harvested by hand or specialized machines and quickly transported to the factory to minimize oxidation, ensuring freshness and quality. Matcha milk is a product very popular among young people. Its refreshing, subtly sweet flavor, combined with the creamy richness of milk, creates a pleasant sensation, promoting alertness and health benefits thanks to its high antioxidant content.

To produce authentic matcha powder, tea leaves are steamed for a few dozen seconds to prevent enzyme oxidation, preserving their natural green color and aroma. Afterward, the leaves are cooled, dried, and the veins and stems are removed, leaving only the leaf flesh (called Tencha), the raw material for matcha production.

Tencha is ground using granite mills or low-speed grinders to avoid heat generation, producing an ultra-fine matcha powder of 10-15 microns. The finished product is then checked for color, moisture, odor, and impurities before being vacuum-packed. From this matcha powder, the company further refines and standardizes the base tea, milk, and sugar formulas to create matcha milk products that suit consumer preferences.

According to Mr. Tran Manh Hoa: The matcha beverage market is growing rapidly, especially among young people with trends like matcha latte, matcha cold whisk, and "green - low sugar - photogenic" drinks. The raw materials are sourced from the Ta Loong tea region in Thao Nguyen ward, using a Taiwanese-technology production line with a capacity of 2 tons per year. Despite being a new product with a primarily domestic market, it has received many positive responses, providing a foundation for the company to confidently launch the product at the end of 2024.

Matcha milk produced by Moc Chau Red Tea Joint Stock Company will be recognized as a typical industrial product of Son La province in 2025.

To promote and introduce its products, in 2025, the company registered four products to participate in the selection of typical industrial and handicraft products of Son La province. Among them, Matcha Milk was awarded a Certificate of Provincial-level Typical Industrial and Handicraft Product by the Provincial People's Committee. The product is packaged in PE bags with a weight of 20g/bag, 10 bags/box. Currently, a 200g box of Matcha Milk costs 129,000 VND/box.

Ms. Luu Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Head of the Industrial Promotion and Development Department and a member of the Judging Panel, assessed: "The company's application dossier shows thorough investment, with complete evidence of quality standards, especially regarding food safety. Packaging and labeling have improved significantly, demonstrating professionalism. The technological content in the product has increased considerably. The Matcha Milk product fully meets the requirements and is highly appreciated by the judging panel."

The company currently applies the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and the HACCP CODE 2023 food safety management system, contributing to increased consumer and distribution partner confidence. Not only has the product achieved outstanding certifications, but it has also received positive feedback from users.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang from Mai Son commune said: "I really like the matcha milk tea from Co Do Moc Chau Tea Joint Stock Company. The matcha aroma is fragrant, the taste is slightly astringent, creamy but not too sweet. A cup of matcha milk tea helps me feel alert and refreshed every morning."

Positive customer feedback, coupled with the recognition of the Matcha Milk product as a typical industrial product of Son La province, is a significant motivation for the company to invest in production lines, improve technology, upgrade packaging and designs, and research new products; expand the market to Central and Southern Vietnam, and explore export opportunities in the coming years.

For products recognized as typical agricultural products, Son La province prioritizes support for participation in trade fairs and events, connecting consumption, and promoting them in regional linkage programs. Products that meet the standards also have the opportunity to be selected for the national-level selection of typical agricultural products, contributing to the dissemination of the Son La agricultural product brand.
