Daily Mail reported that the plane carrying the Arsenal women's team caught fire at Braunschweig Wolfsburg Airport (Germany). The cause is believed to be a bird crashing into the engine as the plane was about to take off. The accident created a loud explosion.
Flames immediately erupted from the left engine of the Boeing 737. The pilots on board quickly evacuated passengers, including the Arsenal first team, to safety.

Arsenal later said: "Our plane experienced a technical issue before take-off in Germany. We had to stay in Wolfsburg overnight before flying back to the UK on Monday afternoon. We would like to thank the staff on board and on the ground at the airport for their support."
Arsenal Women's team drew 2-2 with Wolfsburg in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. The return leg will take place on May 2 ( Hanoi time). In the other semi-final, Barca beat Chelsea 1-0 away.
It is not uncommon for planes to crash because of birds hitting the engines. The famous crash landing on the Hudson River in 2009 by pilot Chesley Sullenberger also happened after the plane hit a flock of birds shortly after taking off from La Guardia Airport in New York. This event was later made into the famous movie Sully, starring actor Tom Hanks as pilot Chesley Sullenberger.
