Kylian Mbappe continued to write another chapter in French football history with his goal against Ukraine in the 2-0 victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

His goal in the 82nd minute not only sealed the match for "Les Bleus" but also brought him level with Thierry Henry's record.

Both currently have 51 goals for their national team, but Mbappe needed only 91 games to reach that milestone (Henry needed 123 games), an incredible goal-scoring record.

Olivier Giroud currently holds the record for most goals scored for the French national team with 57 goals. A six-goal lead is only a matter of time for Mbappe.

At 26 years old, the striker born in Bondy (Paris) has a wide-open path to setting new records, potentially pushing the bar to a level that will be difficult for many years to reach.

The victory against Ukraine once again demonstrated the strength and pragmatism of the team under Didier Deschamps.

In the 10th minute, Michael Olise opened the scoring with a delicate finish after an assist from Barcola.

The early goal allowed France to play comfortably, controlling the game with a solid foundation from the midfield. Ukraine had moments of resistance, particularly with Zabarnyi's shot hitting the post, but the French defense, led by Konate, held firm.

The most memorable moment, of course, belonged to Mbappe. From a perfectly timed long pass from Tchouameni, the French captain sprinted, feinted past the Ukrainian defender, and unleashed a decisive low shot.

A play that perfectly combines speed, technique, and killer instinct – qualities that have become Mbappe's trademark.

For Deschamps, this was the perfect opening match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe: a victory, a clean sheet, and all the big stars made their mark.

However, Deschamps also had cause for concern when Ousmane Dembele suffered an injury and had to leave the field, making way for Hugo Ekitike – who was making his debut for "Les Bleus".

The French national team will continue their qualifying campaign with an away match against Iceland.

With their morale high and Mbappe eager to break records, the French team has every reason to aim for a winning streak.
