Mbappe couldn't beat Yamal. |
Lamine Yamal has once again become a nightmare for Kylian Mbappe. Since July 2024, the young star born in 2007 has defeated his French teammate a total of six times, at both national team and club levels, directly taking away Mbappe's last five titles: the Euro, the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, La Liga, and the Nations League.
Before helping Spain defeat France in the Nations League semi-finals, Yamal beat Mbappe in the Euro semi-finals in July 2024. In October 2024, Mbappe entered his first El Clásico match and suffered a humiliating 0-4 defeat against Barcelona. In January 2025, Mbappe again bowed to Yamal, after Real lost to Barca 2-5 in the Spanish Super Cup final.
In May 2025, Mbappe shone with a hat-trick, but Real still had to bow down to Yamal's Barca in the 35th round of La Liga, thus losing the Spanish championship to their arch-rivals.
Returning to the Nations League semi-final, Yamal scored two goals, overshadowing the French stars, including Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Desrie Doue. The 5-4 victory propelled "La Roja" into their third consecutive Nations League final, setting up an Iberian Peninsula derby against Portugal on the morning of June 9th.
