Mai Thi Tuyet Ngan, a 7th grade student at Nguyen Van Troi Primary and Secondary School (Que Phuoc Commune), has a particularly difficult situation as her mother left and her father does not have a stable job.

Thanks to the “Godmother” program, Tuyet Ngan was supported by the Women’s Union of the commune with 200,000 VND per month from benefactors until her family’s difficulties were relieved. This timely help has given her confidence, helped Ngan buy books, clothes, and study with peace of mind.

“I am very happy to receive the attention of teachers and mothers. Thanks to that, I have more motivation to study better,” Ngan shared.

In Nong Son commune, Huynh Thi Bich Hang, a 5th grade student at Hoang Dieu Primary School, also has a difficult situation, as her mother passed away early and her father is blind. Since being adopted in 2023, Hang has received 6 million VND in support each year to pay tuition, buy school supplies, and necessities. She also regularly receives encouragement and tutoring from the women's union members.

"I will try harder, strive to study really well so that in the future I can have a stable job, help my father and not let down my parents and teachers who have cared for me," Hang expressed.

Ms. Pham Thi Anh Tu, President of the Women's Union of Que Phuoc commune, said that currently, the locality has 10/38 orphans with difficulties who are sponsored through the joint efforts of officials, members and philanthropists. Not only stopping at financial support, the association also organizes many practical companion activities such as: Club activities, summer camps, teaching self-care skills, abuse prevention skills; organizing children's festivals, Mid-Autumn Festival, Children's Day...

“We hope that organizations and individuals inside and outside the locality will continue to accompany and help orphans to be nurtured not only materially but also spiritually, so that they can study, practice, develop comprehensively and become useful people for society,” said Ms. Tu.

Ms. Dang Thi Le, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Nong Son commune, shared that as soon as the two-level local government model was implemented, the union quickly launched the "Godmother" program and connected to sponsor 11 children in difficult circumstances with support of 2-6 million VND/year for each child.

The main source of funding comes from contributions from staff and members and from businesses and individuals. Not only stopping at financial support, the association also implements many practical forms of assistance such as donating uniforms, books, school supplies, etc.

In addition, the association assigns members to regularly stay close to and accompany them, both in their studies and in their moral and life skills education . These activities have contributed to motivating them to confidently go to school, nurture their dreams, and move towards a better future.

The “Godmother” program in Que Phuoc and Nong Son has spread strongly in the community. Many cadres, teachers, union members, organizations and individuals are willing to sponsor and share love with orphans in difficult circumstances. Thereby, not only helping them have more opportunities to study but also fostering the spirit of humanity and solidarity in society.
