According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, last night (June 12), the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam experienced localized showers and thunderstorms. From late afternoon and night of June 14 to the night of June 16, the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam are likely to experience a period of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts are expected to be generally 70-150mm, with some areas exceeding 250mm. A warning is issued regarding the risk of heavy rainfall (>100mm/3h). A level 1 natural disaster risk warning is issued for heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail.

Northern Vietnam is about to experience a period of heavy thunderstorms.
Heavy rainfall is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes (real-time warning information on flash flood and landslide risk areas is provided online on the website of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service at: https://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in separate flash flood and landslide warning bulletins).
The meteorological agency notes that from approximately late afternoon and night of June 14th to the night of June 16th, the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam are likely to experience a period of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts are expected to be generally 70-150mm, with some areas exceeding 250mm. A warning is issued regarding the risk of heavy rainfall (>100mm/3h).
Therefore, from June 15th, the heatwave in the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam and the region from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh will gradually subside. However, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang City and the eastern parts of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will continue to experience intense heat. For the coastal provinces of South Central Vietnam, the heatwave will persist, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night.
Additionally, the Central and Southern highlands will experience sunny days, with some areas experiencing hot weather. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening, with localized heavy rainfall of 10-30mm, and some areas receiving over 60mm.
During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rainfall poses a risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
On June 12th, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense sent a document to 17 provinces and cities, including Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An, regarding proactive response to heavy rain, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and flooding.
