According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a strong cold front from the north is currently moving southward (December 11th). Around December 13th, the cold front will affect the Northeast region, then the North Central region, the Northwest region, and the Central region. Inland, strong northeasterly winds of force 3-4 are expected, with coastal areas experiencing winds of force 4-5, and in some places reaching force 6, gusting to force 7-8.
Due to the influence of a cold front, from the night of December 12th to the end of December 13th, the Northeast region, the western part of Phu Tho province, the eastern part of Son La province, and the eastern part of Lao Cai province will experience moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, with localized very heavy rain. The rainfall amount will generally range from 30-70mm, with some areas receiving over 120mm.
Due to the influence of a cold front from the afternoon and night of December 13th, the North Central region will experience moderate to heavy rain with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 30-60mm, and some areas receiving very heavy rain exceeding 100mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
From December 14th onwards, heavy rainfall in these areas is expected to gradually decrease.

Also due to the influence of the cold air mass, the weather turned cold on December 13th. From December 13th to 14th, mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam experienced intense cold, with some high mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. Some areas in the Northern Delta also experienced intense cold. From the night of December 13th, the North Central region experienced cold weather.
The lowest temperatures during this cold spell in the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam will generally range from 7 to 10 degrees Celsius, with some high mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius. In the plains, temperatures will generally range from 11 to 14 degrees Celsius, and in North Central Vietnam from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms on the night of December 12th and throughout December 13th. From December 13th onwards, the weather will turn cold, with some areas experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperature during this cold spell will generally be 12-14 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature will be 17-18 degrees Celsius.
The peak of this cold spell is predicted to be from December 13th to 15th, with temperatures gradually rising from December 16th onwards.
At sea, from noon and afternoon of December 13th, the Gulf of Tonkin will experience strong northeasterly winds of force 7, sometimes force 8, gusting to force 9, with rough seas and waves 2-4m high. In the northern South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa Special Economic Zone), strong northeasterly winds of force 7-8, gusting to force 9-10, will cause rough seas and waves 4-6m high.
From late afternoon and night of December 13th, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau , the central East Sea, and the western sea area of the southern East Sea (including the western sea area of the Truong Sa special zone) will experience strong northeasterly winds of force 6, sometimes force 7, gusting to force 8-9, with rough seas and waves 3-5 meters high.
