Changes in Kien Ria

Home to the Kinh people who pioneered the land in the 1960s and the indigenous Tay ethnic group, although the land is not vast and not fertile, Kien Ria village in Nghia Tam commune has undergone a remarkable transformation.

Behind this transformation lies the decisive and creative leadership of the village Party branch – the political nucleus, the center of unity, and the source of emulation movements and new advancements.

In the well-built village hall, adorned with numerous certificates of merit, Mr. Bui Van Tham, the Party Secretary, happily shared: "Currently, the village only has one poor household and one near-poor household, while many households are considered well-off or wealthy, earning several billion dong a year."

Sitting in a car driving along the village's concrete road, with imposing houses nestled among lush green fruit trees, Mr. Tham shared: With 45 hectares of oranges and lemons, the village earns an average of about 40 billion VND per year, a factor that will help the average per capita income in the village reach 49 million VND by 2025.

Many families, such as Mr. Do Van Trong's, have 20 hectares, yielding 300 tons of fruit annually, generating 4 billion VND in revenue; while Mr. Nguyen Manh Thuong and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hieu's families have nearly 10 hectares of fruit trees, achieving 1.5 - 2 billion VND in revenue per year...

The above results were achieved not only thanks to the State's investment and support, but also because the 28 Party members of the Kien Ria village Party branch demonstrated exemplary conduct, unity, and democracy, linking individual responsibility with collective responsibility. The Party branch regularly organized thematic meetings on building a multi-faceted economy , developing livestock farming, etc., creating clear direction for the people.

“With a natural area of ​​152 hectares, including 52 hectares of forest land, 8.2 hectares of rice paddies, and several dozen hectares of cinnamon and tea plantations, 139 households still cultivate using traditional methods, and just having enough to eat is considered quite good. Therefore, most of the low-economic-efficiency forest land has been converted by the people to fruit tree cultivation,” said Mr. Vu Van Tuyen, Head of the Farmers' Association in the village.

The Party organization not only plays a leading role but also accompanies, listens to, and promptly resolves the difficulties and obstacles of the people, creating high trust and consensus in the community. And to gain the people's trust, encourage them to learn and follow, Party members are the pioneers in economic development. 100% of Party member families are considered well-off or wealthy.

For example, the family of Party member Bui Van Vui, with 40 years of Party membership, raises and sells 4 tons of pork and hundreds of piglets annually, combined with growing cinnamon and lemons, earning an income of 150-200 million VND; Party member Vu Van Tuyen - Head of the Farmers' Association branch, is a leader in the production movement... These are examples and role models for people to follow.

Bold in economic development, Nguyen Manh Thuong's family is one of the households in the village that has accumulated forest land to invest in planting fruit trees. After many years of saving, with nearly 10 hectares, some of which are already yielding harvests, generating an annual revenue of 1.5 - 2 billion VND, his family has achieved a comfortable life.

Mr. Thuong shared: “Thanks to the attention of the Party branch and the village, my family has changed our production mindset, moving towards a more sustainable and efficient economic model. In particular, the success of households with Party members has inspired many other villagers to strive together, contributing to changing the face of the village.”

With economic development and improved living standards, the "National Unity for Building a Culturally Rich Life" movement and the new rural development program, initiated by the Party branch, have been enthusiastically embraced by the people.

Thanks to state investment and contributions from the people, Kien Ria village has concreted 6 km of internal village roads, making travel and agricultural product transportation more convenient; the people also contributed to building a 350 m² sports arena worth 350 million VND, creating a community space.

Today, 20% of households in Kien Ria have beautifully built houses, 80% have solid houses; 100% of households have access to the national power grid; 100% of children of school age attend school, and the promotion of education and talent is maintained in an orderly manner. The village has men's and women's volleyball teams. Thanks to the "All People Protect National Security" movement, for many years there have been no drug addicts and no serious crimes have occurred...

These achievements helped Kien Ria achieve the status of an advanced new rural village in 2022; for five consecutive years, the village Party branch has been recognized as a model of being clean, strong, and exemplary, and has been commended by the Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee for its outstanding achievements in implementing tasks during the 2020-2025 period.

The reality in Kien Ria is a vivid testament to the leadership strength of the grassroots Party branches – a factor that has helped this region gradually develop into an increasingly civilized, modern, ecological, and happy place.
