Sustainable livestock farming
In 2017, Ms. Hao and her husband decided to build a diversified economic model. Initially, they faced many difficulties, raising only 10-20 sows to provide their own piglets. Being diligent and careful, before expanding the farm, they actively participated in livestock farming training courses and visited various places to learn from practical experience. Thanks to applying the correct technical procedures, their pig herd thrived and had a stable market. The couple continued to accumulate capital, expand production scale, and invest in building a scientifically designed pig farm.
To date, the family farm has expanded to nearly 10 hectares, with a total investment of approximately 7 billion VND and a well-designed system of barns. To ensure a steady supply of livestock, the farm consistently maintains a herd of 200 breeding sows; this number serves both to replenish the farm's herd and to supply high-quality piglets to local farmers. Thanks to securing a good source of breeding stock and applying scientific care procedures, the farm consistently sells around 1,500 market-ready pigs annually.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hao said: “Having done thorough research before deciding to start a business and commit to farm economics, my husband and I invested in systematic livestock farming from the beginning. Even with a large number of pigs, I always aim to develop a herd of clean pork, without using banned substances or lean meat enhancers. The breeding pigs are sourced from our own sow herd, so they have good resistance and are less susceptible to disease. The meat is delicious and meets market demand, so traders buy everything we produce; everything we produce is sold immediately.”

A highlight of Ms. Hao's family's livestock farming model is the application of a circular production method to save costs. All livestock waste is collected and processed through a biogas system, then fed into a manure press to create high-quality organic fertilizer, which is then used to fertilize the crops on the farm.
Diversity of crops and occupations
Besides pig farming, Ms. Hao and her husband take advantage of the fertile land and favorable climate to develop industrial crops combined with fruit trees. The family planted 2,000 robusta coffee trees and intercropped pineapples in the vacant land. Thanks to the use of treated manure and proper care, the pineapples thrive, producing large, juicy, sweet fruits with a yield of 35-40 tons/ha. With a stable selling price of 10,000-12,000 VND/kg, sales are smooth.
Not content with just farming , Ms. Hao's husband also opened a local carpentry workshop. Because they always pay attention to product quality, understand customer needs and market trends, the workshop's tables, chairs, cabinets, and beds have beautiful designs and good quality, making them a popular choice for consumers.
Currently, the family's livestock and crop farm provides stable employment for 5 local workers with an income of 8 million VND/person/month; the carpentry workshop also employs 3 workers with a wage of 7.5 million VND/person/month. After deducting expenses, the couple's integrated economic model achieves an average profit of 400-500 million VND/year.
Commenting on this model, Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Nhan, President of the Women's Union of Tan Lap commune, said: “Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hao is a model female member, diligent and creative in labor and production. Her family's integrated economic model has achieved high efficiency, creating motivation for many other members to learn from and boldly change the structure of crops and livestock to develop the economy. In particular, Ms. Hao is always ready to share her experience, help other members develop together and create jobs for local laborers, contributing to poverty reduction and new rural development in Tan Lap commune.”
