Model garden
The meticulously planned model garden, spanning over 1,400 square meters, belonging to Mr. Nguyen Sao in Dao Trung village, is known as a prominent example in Trieu Co commune. Previously, this area was not effectively utilized, mostly left fallow or planted with traditional crops, resulting in low economic efficiency. Recognizing the growing market demand for clean agricultural products, Mr. Sao decided to convert the entire area to a purely organic production method.
In his garden, he utilizes the land to grow a diverse range of crops and fruit trees using intercropping and staggered planting methods, planting different crops according to the season. He grows vegetables such as eggplant, sweet gourd, winter squash, okra, and lilies, and chooses to plant high-value fruit trees such as mangoes, sapodillas, queen guavas, ruby guavas, pineapples, oranges, and pomelos.
Thanks to meticulous care using organic fertilizers and the application of proper techniques, the garden remains lush and green year-round, yielding a steady harvest. The diligence and proactive application of scientific advancements in production have brought significant economic benefits to the family. On average, Mr. Sao's garden generates a stable income of at least 300-400 thousand dong per day.
During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), when consumer demand increases, this income is even greater. Thanks to strict adherence to clean production processes, all of his family's harvested agricultural products are sold out immediately. Many consumers who prefer clean food proactively contact him to place orders in advance or come directly to his house to buy them for daily use.

Sharing about the process of building the garden, Mr. Nguyen Sao said: “During the construction of the model, my family received very active support from the Farmers' Association of Trieu Co commune and the functional agencies of Trieu Phong district in the past. In particular, the former District Department of Agriculture promptly provided 15 million VND from the new rural development fund to help my family develop the model garden. To date, the model has brought high economic efficiency and stable income to the family. In the future, we will continue to invest in caring for and maintaining this model garden well for long-term development and increased income.”
Replicating the model
Following the practical success of Mr. Nguyen Sao's model family garden, many farmers in Dao Trung village and Trieu Co commune have visited to learn from his experience. This model has been recognized as a typical example in the locality. The model shows that renovating neglected gardens and rearranging the land around the house brings about a significant increase in economic efficiency compared to the old methods. The garden not only helps the family increase their income but also contributes to creating a green, clean, and beautiful rural landscape.
Currently, the Farmers' Association of Trieu Co commune has 19 branches with a total of 2,238 members. The movement to build model gardens in the new rural areas is receiving great attention and support from the people. Throughout the commune, dozens of farmer members' gardens have been invested in and planted with a variety of crops in a fairly systematic way, following ecological principles. However, to meet the standards of a model garden, households need to continue improving scientific planning, ensuring adequate area, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, having a synchronized drainage system, and paving pathways.
In addition, agricultural products must be carefully cultivated using organic fertilizers and strictly adhere to technical procedures to ensure high yield, quality, and food safety for consumers.
Mr. Phan Van Phung, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Trieu Co commune, said: "Mr. Nguyen Sao's model is very effective, and the association will encourage its members to replicate it. Based on the fact that many families are currently producing fruits and vegetables organically, the association has propagated and mobilized them, and so far, 5 farmer members have registered to build model gardens. The association will strengthen propaganda, mobilization, and guidance for farmers to produce clean produce to ensure productivity, quality, protect people's health and the environment; at the same time, provide technical support, guide methods of disease prevention for crops, actively seek markets, and establish linkages to help stabilize product output and increase income per unit area."
