A "gold mine" of agricultural tourism.

Besides the luxurious resorts and iconic destinations that have made Da Lat famous, a new type of tourism has emerged in recent years, offering unique and attractive experiences for visitors: agricultural tourism.

Agritourism is not just a trend, but also an untapped "gold mine," offering golden opportunities for both farmers and tourists.

When the farm becomes a destination.

We visited the vineyard of elderly farmer Nguyen Huu Thanh in Bong Lai village, Hiep Thanh commune. Having only recently become popular in the last few years, Mr. Thanh's vineyard, with its plump, evenly ripened grapes, has become an ideal destination for tourists from both within and outside the province. Everyone enjoys admiring, exchanging ideas, learning about grape cultivation and care, and personally picking their favorite bunches to take home as gifts or enjoy right in the vineyard. "This is a very interesting place to visit. I brought my grandchildren here so they could both tour the vineyard and learn about grape cultivation and buy fresh produce directly from the garden. The feeling of picking grapes myself is very enjoyable, quite different from buying them at the market," shared Ms. Minh Thuy, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City.

Not far from Mr. Thanh's vineyard, Bong Lai Farm is an agro- tourism destination nestled amidst vast elephant grass fields, hidden within Lam Dong's renowned dairy farming region. Despite not being near the city center, it still attracts a large number of visitors who come to check in and enjoy the fresh, peaceful atmosphere of the countryside.

In addition, many other agro-tourism models in the Lam Vien plateau are also taking advantage of agriculture to develop tourism, such as Cun Farm, Tam Trinh Coffee Experiences, and Avocado Farm,... Each place has its own unique charm, but all offer distinctive experiences deeply rooted in agriculture.

Double benefit

The Lam Vien Plateau boasts outstanding advantages in terms of landscape, agricultural products, and cultural value. The rural areas are characterized by beautiful nature, an ideal climate, and the traditional cultural features of various ethnic communities. For example, Xuan Truong ward in Da Lat is famous for its Arabica and Moka coffee and dried persimmons. The local people, a diverse community of Kinh, Hoa, and K'Ho people, live together harmoniously, focusing not only on improving product quality but also actively organizing tourism activities in their orchards, promoting local specialties while showcasing the culture and beauty of their rural villages.

Agritourism is not just about sightseeing; it offers dual benefits, helping to increase local income, promote local specialties, and improve the lives of rural communities.

Mr. Tran Dang Khoi, a farmer in Thai Phien flower village, shared: "Previously, we only focused on flower production. But since tourists started visiting the gardens and taking pictures, I see that our village is more beautiful, and our flower village products are being promoted much better. When tourists see the beautiful flowers and clean vegetables, they buy them to support us, and we also have more income and more joy in our work and production. We love life as farmers even more."

Currently, many communes and wards on the Lam Vien plateau are pursuing policies to promote this type of tourism, considering it an important solution for sustainable rural development and diversification of tourism products.

For this type of tourism to develop to its full potential, it requires synchronized investment from all levels of government, businesses, and the collective efforts of the local community. Upgrading infrastructure such as transportation, electricity, water, and improving the environmental landscape to serve tourists is a prerequisite. With coordinated efforts and well-planned investment strategies, this "gold mine" will surely be unlocked, bringing double benefits to the people and unforgettable experiences to tourists.
