Minh Thu recently returned to visit relatives in Tay Ninh after many years living in the US, but she quickly arranged a trip to Phan Thiet – a place that evokes countless unforgettable street food delights. The young woman said she went with some old friends who had explored the area before, but this time her main purpose was to rediscover the flavors of the rustic dishes in this sunny, windy land.

Holding a piece of paper with a list of her favorite dishes, Minh Thu crossed out "snail salad" and "fried catfish" because she had just eaten them at a roadside stall that afternoon. Now, the group decided to take advantage of the time to stroll along the beach and find places selling fried dough sticks and fish cake noodle soup... Along the way, she explained that she prepared the list because she was afraid of missing anything, and with limited time, she had to make the most of the opportunity to enjoy everything. Tomorrow's planned menu includes rice vermicelli with pork offal, shrimp and squid pancakes, herring spring rolls, snacks made from squid teeth (crispy fried, grilled with satay sauce, stir-fried with garlic and chili), and, of course, rice cakes served with braised fish, steamed dumplings, and boiled eggs...

Meanwhile, Mr. Quoc Bao, from Ho Chi Minh City, still occasionally drives his family straight to Mui Ne just to satisfy his cravings for the local cuisine of this famous coastal destination in Lam Dong province. Thanks to the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway, travel time has been significantly shortened, so his family often chooses to go and return on the same day.

On such occasions, members of Quoc Bao's family gather to enjoy many unique dishes such as fish noodle soup (served with herbs, shredded banana blossom, and crumbled sesame rice crackers), pandan leaf porridge with braised fish and boiled banana blossom. Then there are the wrapped rice cakes (similar to sticky rice cakes on the outside, but with a filling of pork, fried onions, and quail eggs), and savory steamed rice cakes (with shrimp and pork sauce, pork cracklings, and steamed and mashed peeled mung beans)... However, before returning to Ho Chi Minh City, everyone wants to add a bowl of Quang noodles with duck leg, with its distinctive flavor and unmistakable golden noodles.

Fish porridge with braised banana blossom is also a unique and delicious local dish for tourists visiting the blue sea of ​​Lam Dong.

Some argue that the diverse cuisine, including the traditional dishes of the coastal region of Lam Dong, contributes to the attractiveness of the area, encouraging tourists to return for more. In this regard, over the past year, the local tourism industry has promoted a program to survey, develop, and create tourism products linked to traditional craft village experiences and local culinary delights. The aim is to establish a "Food Tour" product to enhance the visitor experience and extend their stay during their visits and vacations in the area.

Returning to her trip to Phan Thiet, Minh Thu praised the local dishes she enjoyed, but regretted not trying more of the new and interesting dishes introduced by the locals. Therefore, Minh Thu hopes to participate in a "Food Tour" next time to experience and learn how to prepare each dish. This way, she can prepare the necessary tools and ingredients and cook some simple dishes herself, even though she's more than half a world away from Vietnam, whenever she misses her homeland…
