Thanh Ba commune was established by merging four administrative units: Thanh Ba town, and the communes of Van Linh, Dong Xuan, and Hanh Cu. This area is rich in tradition, with a natural area of ​​over 3,859 hectares, 49 residential zones, nearly 8,500 households, and over 30,000 inhabitants. The establishment of the commune opens up many opportunities to effectively utilize resources in terms of land, population, and infrastructure, while simultaneously improving the capacity for managing and implementing socio-economic development tasks.

However, alongside its potential, Thanh Ba is also facing many difficulties, especially the deteriorating infrastructure and natural disasters that have damaged many key projects. This is a major obstacle to leveraging its advantages and realizing the local development aspirations.

In Zone 17 Hanh Cu, Cau Rau was once a small bridge, but it played a vital role as a "lifeline" for the local people. Built about 25 years ago, the bridge spanning the Cau Rau stream not only served transportation and farming needs but also connected the agricultural production and irrigation systems for the Dung and Nac fields – two key agricultural production areas in Zones 14, 16, 17, and 18.

However, after Typhoon No. 10 in 2025, the bridge was damaged by landslides, the pillars broke, and the bridge deck cracked, paralyzing transportation and farming. More than 50 households in areas 17 and 18 were directly affected, having to travel 7-8km to reach their fields.

After typhoon number 10, the bridge collapsed and was severely damaged, rendering it impassable.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhuan, head of Hanh Cu Ward 17, shared: "Every year, people cultivate one rice crop and one fish crop, and plant corn and bananas along the banks. Since the bridge broke down, the detour has become too long and difficult to travel, so many households have had to abandon their fields."

The Nac field is a good, flat, and fertile area, but it is currently being left fallow.

Meanwhile, the Nác field, a fertile, flat area suitable for farming, has long been the main source of livelihood for the people of zones 17 and 18. The bridge collapse not only affects production but also threatens traffic safety, especially during the rainy season. Local authorities and residents have placed warning signs on both sides of the bridge, prohibiting people from crossing the collapsed area to ensure safety.

However, this is only a temporary solution; the field cannot remain idle and wasted indefinitely, and the cost of building and repairing the bridge is quite expensive. The local government does not yet have the resources to allocate and arrange the appropriate funds.

Not only in the Cau Rau area, but many rural roads in Thanh Ba commune are also in a state of serious disrepair. Among them are roads built in 2000 and 2001 that have not been upgraded, with narrow, uneven surfaces, making travel dangerous for residents.

The road from the center of Thanh Ba commune (Dao Gia intersection) to Km30 is currently in serious disrepair.

In particular, the road from the commune center (Dao Gia intersection) to Km30 – a vital route connecting Thanh Ba commune with the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway – is currently overloaded and degraded. Despite being a crucial road for goods transportation, trade, and local economic development, the narrow road surface (only about 3.5m wide) makes it impossible for cars to pass each other. During heavy rain, many sections are flooded up to knee-deep, making travel very difficult, especially for schoolchildren.

Ms. Tran Thi Tinh, Head of Zone 3 in Thanh Ba town, said: “The people in our area have suffered greatly when traveling on this road. Previously, the road surface was only about 2.8 meters wide. Around 2010, when the government provided cement, the people in the area proactively contributed money, materials, and labor to widen the road surface to 3.5 meters. However, because it was built so long ago, and it is a vital road with many vehicles frequently traveling on it, the road has seriously deteriorated... We always hope that this road will be upgraded so that travel will be safer and more convenient.”

The people are hoping that the road will be upgraded and widened to make travel more convenient.

Investing in upgrading and expanding the main road connecting the commune center to the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway is the greatest aspiration of the people of Thanh Ba today. Once completed, the road will not only shorten travel time and reduce transportation costs, but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality.

Residents have expressed their willingness to donate land, remove trees, and contribute labor to expand the road. This provides a favorable basis for the local government to mobilize resources and accelerate infrastructure investment.

Comrade Khuat Nang Thang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Ba commune, said: Before implementing the two-tiered local government model, Thanh Ba district had 5 industrial clusters and 1 industrial park. However, after abolishing the district level and merging communes, the new Thanh Ba commune currently has no industrial parks or clusters. To create momentum for development, the locality plans to develop the Van Linh Industrial Cluster - an area with a favorable location in terms of transportation, close to the expressway, with abundant land and labor resources. To realize this plan, investing in transportation infrastructure connecting Van Linh with the commune center is a prerequisite, helping to attract businesses to invest, create jobs, and increase income for the people.

Thanh Ba is a region with great potential for economic development, boasting a large area, a large population, convenient transportation connections, and proximity to an important expressway. However, to truly realize this potential, the locality earnestly desires attention and investment from all levels and sectors to comprehensively develop its transportation and irrigation infrastructure – fundamental conditions for development. Addressing infrastructure bottlenecks is key to transforming Thanh Ba's potential into driving force, enabling it to rise strongly in its development journey as a newly established administrative unit.
