Ukrainian officials said on November 2 that Russia had carried out a series of drone attacks on the capital Kyiv. Debris from the downed drones fell across six districts of the city, injuring a police officer, damaging residential buildings, and causing fires, Reuters reported.

"Another night. Another airstrike warning. Another UAV attack. The Russian armed forces are attacking Kyiv again using their old and familiar tactics," Kyiv's military junta leader Serhiy Popko wrote on social media on November 2, adding that all UAVs targeting Kyiv had been shot down.

Ukraine's energy company DTEK said a high-voltage power line supplying electricity to Kyiv had been damaged. In a statement, DTEK said that most of the power system had been restored and the remainder was being repaired.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian airstrikes were also recorded in the Poltava, Sumy, and Kharkiv provinces. Ukrainian air defenses claimed to have shot down 39 of 71 Russian drones, with another 21 "missing".

Earlier, on November 1, the Ukrainian military said that in October, Russia had launched approximately 2,000 drones at civilian and military targets across Ukraine. On November 2, Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrsky said Ukrainian forces were preventing one of the most powerful Russian attacks since the conflict began in 2022.

Moscow has not responded to the statement from Ukraine. The Russian military has repeatedly denied attacking civilian targets in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda reported on November 2nd, citing a statement from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, that Russia suffered losses of more than 1,200 soldiers and 37 artillery systems on November 1st. Meanwhile, Moscow claims Ukraine lost more than 250 soldiers in the Kursk region of Russia, according to TASS.

Ukraine and Russia have not commented on each other's statements.

Ukrainian President: 'We could have launched a preemptive strike against North Korea if we had long-range weapons'

On November 1st, President Zelensky stated that thousands of North Korean soldiers had been deployed near the Ukrainian border. He mentioned that Kyiv could have launched a preemptive strike against the North Korean troops if the opportunity arose. However, he emphasized that doing so would require long-range weapons.

"Now we can see the locations where Russia is deploying North Korean troops. We can launch a preemptive strike if we have the capability to strike with sufficient range. That depends on our partners," Ukrainska Pravda quoted Zelensky as saying. The Ukrainian president complained that the West is merely "standing by" instead of taking practical action in response to reports of North Korean troops arriving in Russia.

What does the Kremlin say about reports of 'secret negotiations' with Ukraine?

Earlier, on October 31, the US stated that approximately 8,000 North Korean troops were deployed in the Kursk region of Russia. Moscow and Pyongyang clarified that even if North Korea sent troops to Russia, it would not violate international law. Russia asserted that military cooperation within the framework of the Russia-North Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement is a matter for the two countries alone.

On November 1st, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, during a visit to Moscow, stated that his country would stand by Russia until Moscow achieves victory in Ukraine.

Russia accuses Ukraine of obstructing prisoner exchange.

Reuters reported on November 2nd that Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine of essentially harming the prisoner exchange process. Zakharova stated that the Russian Ministry of Defense had requested Kyiv to release 935 Ukrainian prisoners, but Kyiv only accepted 279.

"Russia has never refused dialogue on the exchange of prisoners of war," Zakharova said, asserting that claims to the contrary are intended to discredit Moscow.

Ukraine has not yet commented on the statement. The last time the two sides exchanged prisoners was on October 18, when 95 prisoners were returned to each side, under an agreement brokered by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Did American citizens in Ukraine 'inform' the Russian military?

An American citizen was escorted out of Ukraine by Russian special forces after assisting Moscow in attacking Ukrainian troops, according to TASS on November 2. The individual appeared in Moscow on November 2 and stated that he had requested Russian citizenship.

"My name is Daniel Martindale. For the past two years, I have done everything to protect the lives of Russian soldiers," TASS quoted the aforementioned American citizen, now 33 years old, as saying.

Russian media reported that Martindale had been in Ukrainian territory since February 11, 2022. After proactively establishing contact with Russian security agencies, he provided coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities for two years. The information obtained from him was used repeatedly to inflict losses on Ukrainian military personnel and equipment.

On October 27, Russian soldiers launched an offensive near the village of Bohoiavlenka in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, and rescued Martindale from the conflict zone. At a press conference in Moscow on November 2, he stated that he did not wish to return to the United States and hoped to be granted Russian citizenship.

The US Embassy in Moscow has not commented on the information.

Russia conducts nuclear exercises.

Russia warns the US of the risk of World War 3.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on November 2 that the United States should seriously consider Moscow's warnings about the risk of World War III.

Speaking to RT, Medvedev mentioned that US officials do not want World War III, but for some reason Washington "believes that Russia will not cross the line regarding the use of nuclear weapons."

"They are mistaken. If something affects the very survival of our country, as President (Vladimir Putin) has always said, we will have no other choice," Medvedev said.

Moscow has repeatedly stated it will retaliate if the West allows Ukraine to use long-range weapons to attack Russian territory. US diplomatic officials say relations between Russia and the US are at their lowest point since the Cold War, but insist Washington is not seeking to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, according to Reuters on November 2nd.
