A glimpse of the harvest season in Hoang Su Phi.

(NADS) - Hoang Su Phi is a remote mountainous district in the North of Ha Giang province. The district has 12 communes and 1 town, and is also home to 12 ethnic groups living together in harmony: Kinh, Dao, Tay, Mong, La, Chi, etc.

Economically , Hoang Su Phi district is a poor mountainous district. The economy mainly depends on one rice crop per year, tea cultivation, and livestock farming (buffaloes, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, etc.). The district has over 3,600 hectares of terraced rice fields, of which approximately 1,380 hectares are spread across 11 communes. Notably, in December 2011, the terraced rice fields and scenic landscapes of the district were recognized as a Vietnamese Cultural Heritage site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The main harvest season in the district is from mid-September to mid-October. Upon arriving, you'll encounter golden rice paddies on terraced fields stretching endlessly across the majestic, winding mountain slopes, their heavy harvests reaching to the horizon. Nestled among the mountainsides are stilt houses or watchtowers. All of this blends together into an endless, magnificent, and poetic golden carpet.

Faced with the breathtaking beauty of this golden harvest season, tourists, especially professional and amateur photographers, can only keep snapping pictures to capture all the golden hues of this northern highland region and bring them back to the lowlands as their own. Amidst this atmosphere, during the 2019 harvest season, I was fortunate enough to work alongside some colleagues with the local people in several villages of Hoang Su Phi, such as Nam Ty, Peo, Phung, and Luoc… Interacting with the villagers, I found them to be hardworking, simple, and hospitable farmers.

During this reporting trip, I would like to share with readers – those who have not yet had the opportunity to visit Hoang Su Phi – some images of this harvest season for your viewing and reference.

The author hopes that the economy and tourism industry of Hoang Su Phi will continue to grow and develop in the future. They also hope that the road from Tan Quang intersection (from National Highway 2) to Hoang Su Phi town (Vinh Quang) will receive attention from the Provincial and Ministry authorities in the near future, aiming to upgrade and improve transportation to the district center, making it easier and more convenient than it is currently.
